Multi Voxel Descriptor for 3D Texture Retrieval

open access: yesEmitter: International Journal of Engineering Technology, 2016
In this paper, we present a new feature descriptors  which exploit voxels for 3D textured retrieval system when models vary either by geometric shape or texture or both.

Implementation of a complex intervention to improve care for patients whose situations are clinically uncertain in hospital settings: A multi-method study using normalisation process theory

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
Purpose To examine the use of Normalisation Process Theory (NPT) to establish if, and in what ways, the AMBER care bundle can be successfully normalised into acute hospital practice, and to identify necessary modifications to optimise its implementation.

A comprehensive, multi-level investigation of the implementation of a novel digital substance misuse intervention, Breaking Free Online: conceptualising implementation processes within services using the MRC framework and health psychology theory.

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health, 2015
Background: Medical Research Council (MRC: Craig et al., 2008) guidelines outline the importance of a cycle of continual development, feasibility testing, outcomes evaluation and implementation analysis when creating and evaluating complex interventions.

Canonical normalisation and Yukawa matrices [PDF]

open access: yesPhys.Lett. B586 (2004) 83-94, 2003
We highlight the important role that canonical normalisation of kinetic terms in flavour models based on family symmetries can play in determining the Yukawa matrices. Even though the kinetic terms may be correctly canonically normalised to begin with, they will inevitably be driven into a non-canonical form by a similar operator expansion to that ...

Spot‐14 and its paralog Spot‐14R regulate expression of metabolic and thermogenic pathway genes in murine brown and beige adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Spot‐14 and Spot‐14R play distinct roles in regulating metabolism in brown and beige adipocytes. While both influence lipid and glucose pathways, Spot‐14 uniquely controls thermogenic gene expression. This dual regulation balances energy storage and heat production, highlighting potential therapeutic targets for obesity and metabolic disorders. Spot 14

STAT3 expression is reduced in cardiac pericytes in HFpEF and its loss reduces cellular adhesion and induces pericyte senescence

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) accounts for half of the heart failure cases. It is characterised by microvascular dysfunction, associated with reduced pericyte coverage and diminished STAT3 expression in pericytes. Loss of STAT3 impairs pericyte adhesion, promotes senescence, and activates a pro‐fibrotic gene program.

Decision-Making Behaviour Evolution Among Pork Supply and Demand Subjects Under Normalisation of COVID-19 Prevention and Control: A Case Study in China

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health, 2022
Affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), there were short-term uncertainties in China's live pig industry supply chain. Due to the insufficient supply of pork, the price of pork rose from 33.21 yuan/kg at the end of 2019 to 37.46 yuan/kg in ...

An investigation of term weighting approaches for microblog retrieval [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The use of effective term frequency weighting and document length normalisation strategies have been shown over a number of decades to have a significant positive effect for document retrieval.

Ion channel function of polycystin‐2/polycystin‐1 heteromer revealed by structure‐guided mutagenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutations in polycystin‐1 (PC1) or polycystin‐2 (PC2) cause autosomal‐dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). We generated a novel gain‐of‐function PC2/PC1 heteromeric ion channel by mutating pore‐blocking residues. Moreover, we demonstrated that PC2 will preferentially assemble with PC1 to form heteromeric complexes when PC1 is co‐expressed ...

Evaluating the Impact of a Paediatric Burn Club for Children and Families Using Group Concept Mapping

open access: yesEuropean Burn Journal, 2023
Access to burn camps and clubs is cited as an essential element for children following a burn injury. In the Northern Regional Burns Service, this takes the form of a club run by a multidisciplinary team, offering residential camps and family day trips ...
