New Tests for Normality

Biometrika, 1983
SUMMARY A family of statistics for testing normality is presented which includes new tests for skewness, kurtosis and bimodality alternatives. The tests are simple to use and their power properties seem to be as good as those of the very similar U-statistics given by Oja (1981).

"Normal" Lactose Tolerance Test

Archives of Internal Medicine, 1965
THE RECENTLY described syndrome of intestinal lactase deficiency associated with milk intolerance in an adult 1-4 has renewed interest in lactose absorption. This study was undertaken because no detailed data on the oral lactose tolerance test in the normal adult were available.

Tests for normality versus lognormality

Communications in Statistics, 1975
In applied statistics two of the most widely used distributions for continuous random variables are the normal and the lognormal. In this paper we consider the problem of selecting one of these two distributions. Each distribution is allowed to have unknown location and scale parameters and the lognormal has an unknown shape parameter in addition ...

On Classical Tests of Normality

Biometrika, 1977
SUMMARY Geary studied the use of kurtosis and skewness statistics in testing for normality. The general asymptotic distribution of a class of statistics is derived in this paper, yielding a result which differs slightly from that given by Geary. It is found that the coefficient of kurtosis is not necessarily superior to the ratio of the mean deviation ...

Normality Tests

2014
For testing normality with unknown parameters mu and sigma{2}, extensive simulation studies have shown the superiority of the Shapiro-Wilk test and variants. The Shapiro-Francia test is a simplified version of the Shapiro-Wilk test, which uses the squared normal probability plot correlation as a test statistic. The Cramer-von Mises and Anderson-Darling

Testing for normality

1986
Before setting out on a discussion of tests for normality, we must consider briefly the consequences of non-normality. Clearly, if we know that the distribution of the disturbances is, say gamma, then a different model, and different methods, should be used than those discussed in this volume.

Testing for Normality

Journal of Quality Technology, 1983
A FORTRAN computer program is presented that performs a simple test for normality based on the fact that the mean and variance of a sample are independent if and only if the underlying population is normal. The program provides the approximate descripti..
