Linking vegetation indexes from remote sensing and long-term prospection data to help in the preventative control of desert locust : O401M19 IPM [PDF]
Desert Locust management is nowadays done through a preventative control strategy that consists in avoiding populations to reach high densities and a gregarization process leading to uncontrollable swarms.

How Well Is Surface Diurnal Temperature Range Represented by Observations at 2‐m Level
We demonstrate that geostationary satellites depict well the Diurnal Temperature Range (DTR) in the US but differ from information at 2 m level from model outputs. Upper: mean diurnal temperature range (DTR) using GOES‐E based land surface temperature (LST) for January (left) and July (right) during 2004–2009. Lower: mean diurnal temperature range (DTR)

Rainfall validates MODIS-derived NDVI as an index of spatio-temporal variation in green biomass across non-montane semi-arid and arid Central Asia [PDF]
As satellite-derived normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) is related to vegetation biomass, it may provide a proxy for habitat quality across extensive species ranges where ground-truth data are scarce. However, NDVI may have limited accuracy in

Fire Recurrence and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) Dynamics in Brazilian Savanna [PDF]
Fire is one of the main modeling agents of savanna ecosystems, affecting their distribution, physiognomy and species diversity. Changes in the natural fire regime on savannas cause disturbances in the structural characteristics of vegetation. Theses disturbances can be effectively monitored by time series of remote sensing data in different terrestrial

Abstract Objectives Our aim was to study the association between residential land cover and greenness during childhood and risk of developing celiac disease (CeD). Methods The Celiac Prediction in Skåne study prospectively followed 5969 human leukocyte antigen (HLA)‐genotyped children born 2001–2004 who were screened for CeD at ages 3, 9, and 15 years ...

Density‐dependent habitat selection in plains bison
Using GPS collar data, we tested whether habitat selection of plains bison in Grasslands National Park, Canada, was density dependent. Bison selected for areas of high vegetation productivity far from human activity when population density was low and increased use of lower productivity habitat closer to disturbance as density increased.

ABSTRACT Balancing ecosystem‐service supply and demand is central to understanding both the natural and social dimensions of ecosystem services and to enhancing human well‐beings. Concurrently, collaborative efforts are underway to improve multiple ecosystem services, including the promotion of carbon neutrality and water purification (WP) within basin
