Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Long-term monitoring and predictive modeling of mangrove ecosystem health using Sentinel-2 data in coastal regions of Pakistan (2015–2024)

open access: yesGeology, Ecology, and Landscapes
Mangrove ecosystems along Pakistan’s coastline provide critical ecological services, including coastal protection, carbon sequestration, and biodiversity support, but face increasing threats from sea-level rise, salinity intrusion, and reduced freshwater

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Integrated index analysis for monitoring urban growth based on GIS and remote sensing data in Karbala province, Iraq

open access: yesGeodesy and Cartography
Remote sensing techniques and GIS were used in this study to monitor urban growth in Karbala Governorate, Iraq. A compiled database was created from available Multi-temporal Landsat (TM, ETM+ and OLI) data from 2000 to 2018.

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

Combining proximal and remote sensing to assess ‘Calatina’ olive water status

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Developing an efficient and sustainable precision irrigation strategy is crucial in contemporary agriculture. This study aimed to combine proximal and remote sensing techniques to show the benefits of using both monitoring methods, simultaneously ...

Acute caffeine treatment protects the developing retina from ischemia‐induced cell death

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Caffeine reduces cell death in the developing retina under ischemia (OGD). This effect does not involve BDNF upregulation or antioxidant pathways (NRF2/VEGF). Neuroprotection occurs mainly through adenosine A2A receptor antagonism, decreasing glutamate release and excitotoxicity, highlighting caffeine's potential as an acute neuroprotective agent in ...

Pharmacological inhibition of the PERK pathway modulates hepatocellular carcinoma growth and immune signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

Estimation of LST, NDBI and NDWI in the Jammu Kathua Samba regions of the Northwestern Himalayas, India

open access: yesDiscover Geoscience
The 21st century is very much affected by climate change due to the increase of urban sprawl and the population explosion, causing anthropogenic activities and industrialisation, which are contributing to global warming and affecting climate change. Thus,
