Normalization-Based Validity Index of Adaptive K-Means Clustering for Multi-Solution Application

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Validity evaluation aims to analyze the quality of the clustering algorithm with different measurement criteria. A variety of assessment methods have been introduced in the application of pattern recognition and computer vision. Although it is well known

Normalized solutions for quasilinear (p, q)-equations

open access: yesRevista de la Real Academia de Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales. Serie A. Matemáticas
Abstract In this paper, we study the following quasilinear (p, q)-equation $$\begin{aligned} -\Delta _p u-u\Delta _q u^2+\lambda |u|^{p-2}u=\mu |u|^{l-2}u+|u|^{m-2}u,\quad \text {in}\;{\mathbb {R}}^N, \end{aligned}$$

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Normal versus Decinormal Salt Solution. [PDF]

open access: yesJAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1901
Afton, Ind. Ter., June 20, 1901. To the Editor: —InThe Journalof June 15 is a communication from Dr. C. S. Minnich on normal salt solution; he concludes that the solution meant is the "decinormal," not "normal." "Normal" means "the rule," the general average; if a man, a horse, or a cow has the normal number of teeth, it has the number which is the ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These
