The North-South Asymmetry in the Green Corona
Studia Geophysica et Geodaetica, 1998The north-south asymmetry of the Fe XIV 530.3 nm coronal emission line (the green corona) over cycle 22 was investigated. The green corona line brightness was dominant in the southern hemisphere during cycle 22 (A = −0.07), except for short periods of the ascending phase of the activity cycle. The asymmetry of the semi-annual mean over the period 1940 –

North-south asymmetry of cosmic rays
Proceedings of the Indian Academy of Sciences - Section A, 1954The north-south asymmetry of cosmic rays is experimentally studied at Hyderabad, India; λ=7·7° N. and altitude 1,800 feet above mean sea level. A triple coincidence counter telescope with a resolution of 7°2′ in the zenith and 67°22′ in the lateral plane is employed. Observations are taken at several zenith angles.

North–south asymmetry of some solar indices
Journal of Atmospheric and Solar-Terrestrial Physics, 2005Abstract The smoothed values of the N - S asymmetry of the particular solar parameter LA (longitudinal asymmetry of vectorial sunspot area) were shown by Vernova et al. (Solar Phys. 205 (2002) 371–382) to have an average pattern about the zero epoch, wherein the oscillation starts by a northern dominance ( N - S positive) of LA value ...

North-South asymmetry in the solar flare index
Solar Physics, 1996This paper reports the results of a study of the N-S asymmetry in the flare index using the results of Knoska (1985) combined with our results for the solar cycles 17 to the current cycle 22. By comparing the time-variation of the asymmetry curve with the solar activity variation of the 11-year cycle, we have found that the flare index asymmetry curve ...

The observed north-south asymmetry of IMF spiral
AIP Conference Proceedings, 1996We appraise the finding, reported in the literature, that a small but finite north-south asymmetry (NSA) exists in the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) spiral at Earth's orbit. We have analyzed the data available on the Omnitape for the 1963 to 1993 period. The coverage is very uneven, ranging from less than 40% to greater than 80%. The magnitude of

Cosmic rays in the atmosphere: North – south asymmetry
Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 1996An analysis of the north–south asymmetry in the cosmic ray flux was made with data taken in the north and south polar atmosphere from 1963 through 1991. For altitudes corresponding to column densities between 100 and 800 g/cm2 the N–S asymmetry is near zero during the negative phase of the solar magnetic cycle (1963–1969 and 1982–1989) and is positive ...

North-south asymmetry of geomagnetic and tropospheric events
Journal of Atmospheric and Terrestrial Physics, 1974The influences of the solar plasma on geomagnetic and atmospheric phenomena are considered. There are the north-south asymmetry in the reaction of the geomagnetic field, of the geopotential and of the pressure in the magnetically conjugate points relative to the direction of the interplanetary magnetic field. There are the synchronism between direction

Strong North/South asymmetry in the Jovian stratosphere
Icarus, 1988Trailed spectra of standard B stars have been used as the 'flat' field light source for spatial calibration of IUE large-aperture observations of the north and south polar regions of Jupiter. Longward of 2000 A, the south polar spectrum is lower than the north polar one by a factor of 2.5; shortward of 2000 A, strong C2H2 absorption appears in both ...

On the North-South Asymmetry of Cosmic Radiation
Physical Review, 1935The development of the theory of the latitude and azimuthal effects is reviewed and the significance of Johnson's experiments on the north-south asymmetry is brought out. St\"ormer's critical remarks are commented on with reference to Lemaitre and Vallarta's paper and to recent papers by Lemaitre and by Bouckaert.
