Influence of Wintertime Polar Vortex Variation on the Climate over the North Pacific during Late Winter and Spring

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2019
The effects of wintertime stratospheric polar vortex variation on the climate over the North Pacific Ocean during late winter and spring are analyzed using the National Centers for Environmental Predictions, version 2 (NCEP2) reanalysis dataset.

Holocene Ecohydrological Variability on the East Coast of Kamchatka

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2019
The Late Glacial and Holocene climate of the western North Pacific is less studied than that of the eastern North Pacific. While it is well known that strong east-west gradients in the tropical Pacific Ocean influence terrestrial climate, we seek to ...

The strengthening relationship between summer rainfall over North China and PDO since the mid-2000s

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2022
The interdecadal change of the summer (July–August) rainfall over North China (SRNC) is of great concern to the climate research community. Based on the sliding correlation and interdecadal difference analysis, the interdecadal change of SRNC was studied.

Step‐Associated Cu‐Ceria Interfaces Enhance Catalytic Activity and Selectivity

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
The catalytic activity and selectivity of supported Cu nanoparticles depends on their interfacial environments, with Cu nanoparticles at step‐associated environments converting CO2 to methanol much faster than those on terrace facets, indicating that step sites create more active metal–oxide interfaces.

A model for Mexican neotectonics based on nationwide GPS measurements, 1993-2001 [PDF]

open access: yesGeofísica Internacional, 2004
We combine velocities for 14 continuously operating GPS stations spanning Mexico, GPS sites on Socorro and Clarion islands on the Pacific plate west of Mexico, and 178 GPS sites on the North American and Pacific plates to derive plate-based reference ...

Siple Dome shallow ice cores: a study in coastal dome microclimatology [PDF]

open access: yesClimate of the Past, 2014
Ice cores at Siple Dome, West Antarctica, receive the majority of their precipitation from Pacific Ocean moisture sources. Pacific climate patterns, particularly the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and the Southern Annular Mode (SAM), affect local ...

Race and Household Income Are Associated With Disease Outcomes in Pediatric Patients With Antineutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibody–Associated Vasculitis Hospitalized in the United States

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Race and household income impact outcomes in patients with rheumatic conditions; however, their role in pediatric antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)–associated vasculitis (AAV) remains poorly understood. We aimed to evaluate whether race and ethnicity and household income are associated with severe AAV disease and renal outcomes among

Supplements to quantitative assessments of zooplankton in the Far Eastern Seas and adjacent waters of the North Pacific

open access: yesИзвестия ТИНРО, 2017
An overview of published and new estimates of zooplankton density and biomass in the Far-Eastern Seas and North-West Pacific with their daily, seasonal and interannual dynamics is presented on the materials of numerous marine expeditions conducted by ...

Caregiver Perspectives on the Burden of Disease and Treatment in Uncontrolled Gout

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Uncontrolled gout (UG) refers to persistently elevated serum urate (SU) levels >6 mg/dL and ongoing gout symptoms despite use of urate‐lowering therapy (ULT). The objective of this study was to evaluate the burden associated with informal caregiving for individuals with UG.

Special Issue: The North-West Pacific in the 18th and 19th Centuries [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean journal of American studies, 2010
The texts in this Special Issue represent an interesting combination, covering as they do two contrasting historical studies of the North West Pacific: the sweeping ambitions of Russian imperial designs on the western coast of North America, and the closely-observed ethnographic studies of native peoples in that region by the Norwegian explorer Johan ...
