North Atlantic Climate Variability: Phenomena, Impacts and Mechanisms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Variability of the North Atlantic Oscillation and the Tropical Atlantic dominate the climate of the North Atlantic sector, the underlying ocean and surrounding continents on interannual to decadal time scales.

Assessing Past and Future Temperature‐ and Precipitation‐Based Indicators in the Republic of Yemen

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
For the first time in the literature, this work assesses the past and future climatic trends over Yemen, a highly vulnerable country for which science‐based, high‐quality information for the development of climate change adaptation plans was not available until now.

The Effect of Indian Ocean Surface Freshwater Flux Biases On the Multi-Stable Regime of the AMOC

open access: yesTellus: Series A, Dynamic Meteorology and Oceanography
It is known that global climate models (GCMs) have substantial biases in the surface freshwater flux. Using numerical bifurcation analyses on a global ocean model, we study here the effect of freshwater flux biases over the Indian Ocean on the multiple ...

Mechanisms for millennial-scale global synchronization during the last glacial period [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Global climate during the last glacial period was punctuated by abrupt warmings and occasional pulses of freshwater into the North Atlantic that disrupted deepwater production. These massive freshwater pulses known as Heinrich events arose, in part, from

Hidden Markov Quantile Models With Trends for Analysing Air Temperature Data

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
There is the question of whether climate change, expressed by time‐trends in temperature, is of a heterogeneous nature or not. Here, the time‐trend heterogeneity argument has been investigated using Hidden Markov (HM) quantile time‐trends models in temperature time series.

Spatiotemporal Changes in Precipitation Concentration in the Atlantic‐European Region

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
This study analyses changes in precipitation concentration using ERA5 and E‐OBS datasets. Gini index as a measure of precipitation concentration revealed a gradual expansion of areas with increasing unevenness in precipitation distribution across the Atlantic‐European region since 1961.
