Abstract The anatomical description of the hourglass dolphin (Cephalorhynchus cruciger) and the spectacled porpoise (Phocoena dioptrica) remains largely unexplored, due to limited specimen availability and preservation challenges. This study employed digital imaging techniques, conventional histology, and computed tomography to provide visualization of

Deep ocean cooling and freshening from Subpolar North Atlantic reaches Subtropics at 26.5°N
Deep water masses of the North Atlantic Ocean are formed in the subpolar regions through ocean-atmosphere interactions, imprinting unique climate signals like anomalous temperature and salinity on the deep waters that are exported to the Subtropical ...

Decadal predictions of the cooling and freshening of the North Atlantic in the 1960s and the role of ocean circulation [PDF]
In the 1960s North Atlantic sea surface temperatures (SST) cooled rapidly. The magnitude of the cooling was largest in the North Atlantic subpolar gyre (SPG), and was coincident with a rapid freshening of the SPG.

Abstract Walruses have been an important subsistence and cultural resource for humans and have been exploited for millennia across their distribution. This exploitation has contributed to severe declines in several populations and local extirpations.

Biogeochemistry of the North Atlantic during oceanic anoxic event 2: role of changes in ocean circulation and phosphorus input [PDF]
The geological record provides evidence for the periodic occurrence of water column anoxia and formation of organic-rich deposits in the North Atlantic Ocean during the mid-Cretaceous (hereafter called the proto-North Atlantic).

Decadal prediction of the North Atlantic subpolar gyre in the HiGEM high-resolution climate model [PDF]
This paper presents an analysis of initialised decadal hindcasts of the North Atlantic subpolar gyre (SPG) using the HiGEM model, which has a nominal grid-spacing of 90 km in the atmosphere, and 1/3 ∘∘ in the ocean.

Abstract The Pleistocene is a key period for understanding the evolutionary history and palaeobiogeography of the European rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus). The species was first documented in southeastern Iberia at the beginning of the Middle Pleistocene and appears to have rapidly spread throughout Southwestern Europe, where it was found in numerous ...

Skilful Seasonal Prediction of Ocean Surface Waves in the Atlantic Ocean
Ocean surface wave height in the Atlantic Ocean is strongly influenced by the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO). Here we demonstrate for the first time a skilful seasonal forecast for wave height in the Atlantic Ocean, produced by a seasonal prediction ...

Major variations in subtropical North Atlantic heat transport at short (5 day) timescales and their causes [PDF]
Variability in the North Atlantic ocean heat transport at 26.5°N on short (5-day) timescales is identified and contrasted with different behaviour at monthly intervals using a combination of RAPID/MOCHA/WBTS measurements and the NEMO-LIM2 1/12° ocean ...
