Chlorinated hydrocarbons in the North Pacific and Indian Oceans

Journal of the Oceanographical Society of Japan, 1980
PCBs, DDT compounds and HCH isomers were detected in the air and surface waters of the North Pacific and Indian Oceans, including the Bering Sea, East China Sea, South China Sea, Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. The general concentrations of each chlorinated hydrocarbon were as follows: water PCBs 0.1 to 1.0, ΣDDT 0.01 to 1.0, ΣHCH 1.0 to 10 ngl −1 ...

The relationship between significant wave height and Indian Ocean Dipole in the equatorial North Indian Ocean

Ocean Dynamics, 2018
Based on reanalysis data, we find that the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) plays an important role in the variability of wave climate in the equatorial Northern Indian Ocean (NIO). Significant wave height (SWH) in the equatorial NIO, especially over the waters southeast to Sri Lanka, exhibits strong interannual variations.

The characteristics of the mid-depth striations in the North Indian Ocean

Deep Sea Research Part I: Oceanographic Research Papers, 2020
<p>Argo trajectory data is used to estimate the velocities of mid-depth (1000db) currents in the North Indian Ocean (NIO). Based on these estimated velocities rather than an assumed level of “no motion”, the structure of upper ocean absolute geostrophic currents can be derived more accurately from the ...

North Indian Ocean warming and sea level rise in an OGCM [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Earth System Science, 2008
The variability in the long-term temperature and sea level over the north Indian Ocean during the period 1958–2000 has been investigated using an Ocean General Circulation Model, Modular Ocean Model version 4. The model simulated fields are compared with

Impact of the Indian Ocean Basin Mode on Tropical Cyclone Genesis in the North Indian and Western North Pacific Oceans

This study investigates the diverse influence of the Indian Ocean Basin Mode (IOBM) on tropical cyclone (TC) genesis in the north Indian Ocean (NIO) and western North Pacific (WNP) Ocean. Three types of warm (W1-W3) and cold IOBM (C1-C3) years are identified based on their persistence and connectivity with the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) mode.

Near-Real-Time Availability of Ocean Heat Content Over the North Indian Ocean

IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters, 2015
Ocean heat content (OHC) is an important parameter in determining the heat flux in the ocean–atmosphere system, which can influence weather systems such as cyclones and monsoons. Hence, regular monitoring of OHC is required, which needs continuous subsurface temperature profiles.

Spiciness induced upper ocean variability over the North Indian Ocean

2023
Spiciness is the orthogonal variations of temperature and salinity along the isopycnal and varies with warmth and saltiness of seawater. Variability in any of these parameters leads to change in spiciness. In the Arabian sea, the reduction in upwelling was observed due to decreasing wind speed, which raises the sea surface temperature (SST) and ...

Extended Prediction of North Indian Ocean Tropical Cyclones

Weather and Forecasting, 2012
Abstract This analysis examines the predictability of several key forecasting parameters using the ECMWF Variable Ensemble Prediction System (VarEPS) for tropical cyclones (TCs) in the North Indian Ocean (NIO) including tropical cyclone genesis, pregenesis and postgenesis track and intensity projections, and regional outlooks of tropical

Characteristics of North Indian Ocean Tropical Cyclone Activity

1984
Abstract : Characteristics of North Indian Ocean tropical cyclones are discussed from a combined climatological, composite, and individual-case perspective. Presented are both a general discussion of the monthly climatology of these spring/autumn tropical cyclones and a comparison of their strucutre, genesis, intensity, and movement with these ...
