Context-dependent Effects of Livestock Grazing in Deserts of Western North America
2019This chapter provides a general review of grazing disturbance by large mammalian grazers and the role of ecological context in moderating its effects, with emphasis on North American deserts. It discusses the ecological consequences of cessation of livestock grazing and present a case study from the Mojave Desert, United States of America.

ANALYSIS OF THE SPECTRAL CHARACTERISTICS OF DESERT LANDSCAPES OF THE NORTH-WESTERN CASPIAN
Land Degradation and Desertification: Problems of Sustainable Land Management and Adaptation, 2020Studies of the thermodynamic characteristics of semi-desert landscapes were carried out with the PSR-1100 Spectroradiometer in the range from 320 to 1100 nm. Energy distribution data for the parts of the spectrum for plant phytocenosis Poa bulbosa, Descurainia Sophia were obtained from the energy brightness distribution spectrogram at the Tavn-Gashun ...

Oil:Oil Correlation for Some Oil Fields in the North Western Part of the Western Desert, Egypt
Petroleum Science and Technology, 2003Physical and specific geochemical analyses are used in detail for the petroleum geochemical studies to permit the correlation of six crude oil samples from Western Desert Egypt. Different analytical techniques, including liquid chromatographic separation, gas chromatography, and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), were used to characterize ...

Surveying sandy deserts and desertified lands in northâwestern China by remote sensing
International Journal of Remote Sensing, 2007Sandy deserts and desertified lands (SDDL) cover most of north-western China, and desertification is a severe environmental issue in this region. In this study, we classify SDDL into mobile, semi-mobile, semi-anchored, and anchored classes, and divide the corresponding severity of desertification into four levels: extremely severe, severe, moderate ...

Spectroscopic Studies on Some Crude Oils from The North Western Desert, Egypt
Petroleum Science and Technology, 2010Abstract A direct method for crude oil evaluation based on spectral techniques is demonstrated in this article. This method is demonstrated for four crude oils from the El-Faras and Raml oil fields in the North Western Desert in Abu Gharadeg Basin, Egypt.

Cenomanian-Santonian Foraminifera and Ostracodes from Horus Well-1, North Western Desert, Egypt
Micropaleontology, 1997Fifteen species and three subspecies of foraminifera and forty-four species of ostracods are described from subsurface borehole Horus Well- in the northwestern desert of Egypt. The stratigraphic significance of some benthonic foraminifera (Thomasi- nella, Nezzazata and Nezzazatinella) furnish new information on the age determination.

Desert dunes and estuarine fill in the Fitzroy estuary (North-Western Australia)
CATENA, 1975Summary In the R. Fitzroy estuary, Western Australia, there is a remarkable interfingering of linear desert dunes and tidal flats. The dunes, fixed by Acacia shrub and at right angles to the resultant of present sand-shifting winds, belong to a former more arid climate.

The vegetation of linear desert dunes in the north-western Negev, Israel
Flora, 1997Summary In 1992 the flora and vegetation of an area of linear sand dunes at Nizzana, western Negev desert, Israel, was investigated. Seven different plant communities were found and a vegetation map of the research area was produced. The plant communities were distinguished by only the dominating perennial species.
