Evolution of Lascar Volcano, Northern Chile
Journal of the Geological Society, 1998Lascar Volcano in the Central Andes, is an ESE–WNW elongate composite stratocone. Stage I (<43 ka) formed a mafic andesite stratocone and culminated in three coarse-grained pyroclastic flow eruptions. Stage II switched to the west and magmas evolved to silicic andesite and dacite of a lava dome complex and hot rock avalanche apron ...

A magnetite "flow" in northern Chile
Economic Geology, 1961Unique magnetite-hematite deposits in the Laco area of northern Chile are believed to represent the crystallization of a recent "ore magma" composed almost entirely of iron oxides and abundant gas. The "ore magma" appears to have intruded tuff at shallow depth and in places to have broken out over the surface. Gas tubes, blisters, and ropy surfaces are

Inca Imperial Colonization in Northern Chile
2018In this chapter, the authors argue that the rapid, extensive, and efficient expansion of the Inca into northern Chile was not the consequence of random decisions. On the contrary, the cases studies presented show strategic geopolitical decision-making aimed to reduce conflict for resources and land between local leaders and foreign polities.

Geothermal Exploration in Northern Chile: ABSTRACT
AAPG Bulletin, 1974Interest in the economic development of geothermal energy has been restricted to Tarapaca and Antofagasta Provinces (18°00^primeS to 24°00^primeS) in northern Chile, where the energy requirements for industrial and mining purposes must be supplied by conventional thermal electric plants. These plants have been operated chiefly with imported oil.

Salar Deposits in Northern Chile
1990The salt deposits of continental origin in the coastal desert of Northern Chile have been subject to many scientific studies since the end of the 19th century, especially with respect to the Na-K nitrate ore deposits, unique in type in the world (Noellner 1867; Darwin 1890; Bruggen 1928; Wetzel 1928; Ericksen 1981, 1983; van Moort 1985).

Pediplain in Northern Chile and the Andean Uplift
Science, 1967A pediplain in the Chilean Atacama Desert formed during Oligocene and Miocene time when the aridity of the region started and was later displaced by north-trending faults associated with the Andean uplift. Block basins and some horsts were later concealed by Upper Tertiary and Quaternary orogenic sediments and ignimbrites.
