In this thesis it is argued that famine is a concatenation\ud process caused by a severe shock to the economy which in\ud turn leads to a series of socio-economic adjustments by the\ud affected population. If the economic shock is sufficiently\ud prolonged, then fallback strategies fail for vulnerable\ud sections of the population.
