Holocene vegetation dynamics of Grande Terre (Kerguelen Islands) inferred from sedimentary ancient DNA

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT While the Antarctic region has experienced significant climatic changes over the Holocene, few high‐resolution records have examined their effects on the local biota. In order to understand past ecological shifts and forecast future changes, it is important to obtain high‐resolution palaeoecological records from this region.

New geochronological constraints on Late Pleistocene glaciation in the southern Cadí Massif, SE Pyrenees

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Cadí Massif (42°17′09″ N, 1°38′11″ E; 2649 m a.s.l.) in the southeastern Pyrenees preserves clear evidence of Late Pleistocene glaciation, although previous research has focused almost exclusively on its northern slope. By contrast, the southern slope has remained largely unexplored.

Holocene vegetation change and fire–plant diversity shifts in Mediterranean France

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Changes in fire activity are recognized as a major threat to biodiversity and vegetation communities across the Mediterranean Basin. However, long‐term fire–vegetation interactions remain poorly investigated. Here, we combine a high‐resolution charcoal record with pollen data from the “Étang des Aulnes” lake (southern France) to reconstruct ...

Responses of primary producers, anoxia, and chemical feedback to Late Glacial climate change: Insights from a paired lake approach

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract Worldwide, lacustrine ecosystems are threatened by eutrophication and deoxygenation. Both processes are driven by the combined effects of human activities and climate change. Understanding the pre‐anthropogenic nexus between warming, eutrophication, deoxygenation, and related feedback is essential to determine how lakes respond to rapid ...
