[Polymorphism of mitochondrial DNA in Northern Selkups].

The RFLPs detected by the AvaII, BamHI, EcoRV, KpnI, HaeIII, and RsaI restriction enzymes in the D-loop region of mitochondrial DNA of the Northern Selkups were analyzed. Frequencies of the rare variants were estimated for all polymorphic sites examined. A total of 16 mitotypes were described.

The relationship between heterozygosity for 11 polymorphic loci and fertility of women having passed the menopause was studied in North-Siberian tribe North Selkup. Women with low level of heterozygosity were characterized by the highest values of variance of the number of livebirths and the index of early reproductive loss.
