EZOA -- A catalogue of EBHIS HI detected galaxies in the northern Zone of Avoidance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We present a catalogue of galaxies in the northern Zone of Avoidance (ZoA), extracted from the shallow version of the blind HI survey with the Effelsberg 100 m radio telescope, EBHIS, that has a sensitivity of 23 mJy/beam at 10.24 km/s velocity resolution. The catalogue comprises 170 detections in the region Dec >= -5 degrees and |b| < 6 degrees. About

New northern common proper motion pairs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
A list of 705 new Northern Celestial Hemisphere common proper motion pairs as derived from the Second U.S. Naval Observatory CCD Astrograph Catalog is presented, along with details of their separation, motion, brightness and colour. Objects of particular interest are noted, and the use of the catalogue for such work gauged.

Ethnic processes within the Turkic population of the West Siberian plain (sixteenth-twentieth centuries) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007

Variograms of the Cosmic Microwave Background Temperature Fluctuations: Confirmation of Deviations from Statistical Isotropy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The Standard Inflationary model predicts an isotropic distribution of the Cosmic Microwave Background temperature fluctuations. Detection of deviations from statistical isotropy would call for a revision of the physics of the early universe. This paper introduces the variogram as a powerful tool to detect and characterize deviations from statistical ...

A Novel Approach towards the Search for Gamma-ray Emission from the Northern Fermi Bubble with HAWC [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
The Fermi bubbles are structures observed in gamma rays at GeV energies, emanating from the central region of our galaxy and extending up to 8.5 kpc above and below the galactic plane. While initial studies showed a flat brightness across the entire structure, more recent work found a brightening at the base.

Emission-Line Fluxes of Northern Planetary Nebulae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We present long slit spectrophotometric emission line fluxes of bright and extended (<5 arcsec in diameter) Planetary Nebulae (PNe) selected from Acker et al. 1992 catalog with suitable equitorial coordinates for Northern hemisphere. In total, 17 PNe have been choosen and observed in 2008--2010.

Genomic study of the Ket: a Paleo-Eskimo-related ethnic group with significant ancient North Eurasian ancestry [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
The Kets, an ethnic group in the Yenisei River basin, Russia, are considered the last nomadic hunter-gatherers of Siberia, and Ket language has no transparent affiliation with any language family. We investigated connections between the Kets and Siberian and North American populations, with emphasis on the Mal'ta and Paleo-Eskimo ancient genomes using ...

Data Analysis for the COVID-19 early dynamics in Northern Italy. The effect of first restrictive measures [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
In a recent report we have collected some data about the COVID-19 epidemics in Northern Italy; in this follow-up we analyze how these changed after the mild restrictive measures taken by the Government two weeks ago and the large campaign of public awareness developed in the meanwhile.

Extending the IceCube search for neutrino point sources in the Northern sky with additional years of data [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
The IceCube Neutrino Observatory is a one-cubic-kilometer-sized neutrino telescope deployed deep in the Antarctic ice at the South Pole. One of IceCube's major goals is finding the origins of astrophysical high-energy neutrinos. In 2022, IceCube identified the strongest point-like neutrino source so far, the active galaxy NGC 1068. Analyzing 9 years of
