Through the Sands of Time: Evolutionary History and Systematics of the Awl‐Headed Snakes (Colubridae: Lytorhynchus) in the Saharo‐Sindian Region

open access: yesZoologica Scripta, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The psammophilous colubrid genus Lytorhynchus is widely distributed in the deserts of the Saharo‐Sindian region and adjacent areas. The taxonomy of the genus and the number of recognised species have remained unstable since the last taxonomic revision in 1970, with differing views on the taxonomic status of L. gaddi and L. kennedyi.

open access: yesReview of Education, Volume 14, Issue 3, December 2026.

The Affective Afterlife of the “Smelly Immigrant” Trope: Contested Scents, “Race,” and Olfactory Contact Zones in Berlin

open access: yesCity &Society, Volume 38, Issue 3, December 2026.
ABSTRACT This paper proposes the notion of “olfactory contact zones” to investigate the role of odors and scents and the affects they give rise to in Berlin's urban publics. While this advanced some Turkish objectives, it demonstrated the limits of Ankara's influence: Kurdish fighters were incorporated ...

The Stability‐Instability Paradox and the Evolving Balance of Terror in the Middle East

open access: yesMiddle East Policy, Volume 33, Issue 4, Winter 2026.
Abstract In launching its war on Iran, Washington has committed a grave mistake by allowing a weakened Islamic Republic to reconstitute a regional balance of terror. This article shows how the Cold War‐era stability‐instability paradox has been restored in a new form, creating an equilibrium that discourages open warfare while reducing the advantages ...

Territorial Rights and the Debate About the Morality of Zionism

open access: yesPhilosophy &Public Affairs, Volume 54, Issue 4, Page 252-261, Fall 2026.
ABSTRACT This paper explores the view that, beyond particular wrongs committed by Zionism, the Zionist project was itself inherently wrong. I argue that the most plausible basis for this claim is the contention that Zionism disrespected the territorial rights of the local Arab population. By examining leading contemporary theories of territorial rights

Accounting for Biases in the Analysis of Building Damage Data for the 2023 M7.8 Türkiye/Syria Earthquake Sequence

open access: yesEarthquake Spectra, Volume 42, Issue 4, November 2026.
In the aftermath of a large earthquake, several practical constraints affect the systematic collection of data for assessing building damage. The available data are therefore typically incomplete, frequently missing key information such as the type of construction, age and geographic location.
