A North Atlantic synthetic tropical cyclone track, intensity, and rainfall dataset

open access: yesScientific Data
Tropical Cyclones (TCs) cause significant socio-economic damages to the US and Caribbean coastal regions annually, making it important to understand TC risk at the local-to-regional scales.

Predicting seizure freedom in the postpartum period: Findings from the Maternal Outcomes and Neurodevelopmental Effects of Antiepileptic Drugs study

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective This study was undertaken to evaluate whether seizure freedom in pregnancy predicts seizure freedom in the postpartum period in women with epilepsy (WWE). Prior studies have shown that seizure freedom prior to conception strongly predicts seizure freedom during pregnancy.

The 2025 Kamchatka Earthquake and Tsunami: Cascading Impacts and Risks to Japan

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT On July 29th, 2025, a large earthquake (Mw 8.8) occurred near the Kamchatka Peninsula. This event caused a tsunami that reached Japan's Pacific coast, even though the source was far away. In this study, we analyze the characteristics of earthquakes and tsunamis and discuss how they relate to the recurrence possibility and risk in Japan.

Multi‐Hazard Shaking‐Tsunami Fatality Risk Estimation for Coastal Communities

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study develops a multi‐hazard fatality risk model for a coastal community (Tofino) on Vancouver Island, Canada, subjected to earthquake‐tsunami threats from the Cascadia subduction megathrust events. The model incorporates variable population distributions and uncertain fatality rate models, in addition to other key model components, such

Enhanced Pacific Northwest heat extremes and wildfire risks induced by the boreal summer intraseasonal oscillation

open access: yesnpj Climate and Atmospheric Science
The occurrence of extreme hot and dry summer conditions in the Pacific Northwest region of North America (PNW) has been known to be influenced by climate modes of variability such as the El Niño-Southern Oscillation and other variations in tropospheric ...

Replacement of Ores Recorded by Textures and Chemical Compositions of Sphalerite: An Example From the Furutobe Kuroko Deposit, Akita, Japan

open access: yesGeological Journal, EarlyView.
Coupled dissolution‐reprecipitation of early formed Cd‐, Fe‐, Ag‐ and Sb‐poor sphalerite through interaction with high‐temperature and high‐sulphur fugacity Cu‐rich fluids, responsible for the formation of the yellow ores, resulted in the formation of Cd‐, Fe‐, Ag‐ and Sb‐rich, heavily chalcopyrite‐diseased sphalerite and enrichment of critical metals ...

Grain boundary effects on radiation damage and tritium diffusion in Li–Al–O ceramics from molecular dynamics and experiments

open access: yesnpj Materials Degradation
Understanding irradiation damage and tritium transport in LiAlO2 ceramics is essential for their deployment in tritium-producing burnable absorber rods (TPBARs).

Thermochronologic Constraints on the Extensional History of the Ibex Hills, Southeastern Black Mountains, Death Valley, California

open access: yesGeological Journal, EarlyView.
A. Modeled T‐t paths for samples in the northern Ibex Hills, showing steady cooling throughout much of the Cenozoic, until rapid Miocene cooling. B. Weighted mean paths for each sample in this study. Note that all show a rapid cooling event at or just after 10 Ma, which is interpreted to represent exhumation as a result of regional extenstion ...
