We describe the host response continuum for highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses (HPAIV), including the continuum of host responses to HPAIV infection and exposure based on the primary axis of host competence, ability to infect other hosts, and host vulnerability.

The Northwest Pacific is a source of strong typhoons accompanied by significantly changing ocean heat content (OHC). Based on the GDCSM_Argo dataset, all typhoons within twenty years are considered to explore the regulation of OHC between 0 and 2000 m ...

Nesting ecology of an ice‐associated seabird, Kittlitz's murrelet, at the northern edge of its range
We studied the Kittlitz's murrelet, an ice‐associated seabird of conservation concern, at the northern edge of its range. Over a 2‐year period, we estimated nest density and success at 2 sites, captured and telemetered nesting murrelets, and tested the use of a thermal camera to improve nest detection.

Ocean response to typhoon Nari and 2009 field program
Ocean response to typhoon is examined in the shelf seas in the Korean marginal seas and Northwestern Pacific. Ocean heat change and near inertial current generation under typhoon Nari. The coupling of ocean and typhoon models is also investigated for the

Network Structure and the Efficiency Gains from Mergers: Evidence from U.S. Freight Railroads
ABSTRACT The trade‐off between market power and efficiency gains is central to antitrust analyses of mergers, but empirical evidence quantifying efficiencies remains limited. Using transaction‐level data from U.S. freight railroads (1985–2005), this article quantifies merger‐induced cost efficiencies, driven mainly by eliminating inter‐railroad ...
