Vertical distribution of bacterial abundance in the northwest pacific ocean
Journal of the Oceanographical Society of Japan, 1990Mixed populations of free-living marine bacteria were collected at depths from the surface to the bottom (1,960m in Suruga Bay and 1,585 m in the Japan Sea) in the northwest Pacific during deep-sea diving by the submersible,Shinkai 2000. Their abundance in total cell counts and in lipopolysaccharide (LPS) concentration was found to decrease with ...

Spatial coherence measurement of sound in the northwest Pacific Ocean
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1993An experiment on the transverse horizontal spatial coherence of sound propagating in the ocean was performed jointly by Chinese and Russian acousticians in the northwest Pacific Ocean in June 1990. Three hydrophones with spacings of 270 and 130 m were put in the water at a 30-m depth.

Glacial‐age hydrography of the far northwest Pacific Ocean
Paleoceanography, 1998Stable isotope data on benthic foraminifera from more than 30 cores on the northern Emperor Seamounts and in the Okhotsk Sea are synthesized in paleohydrographic profiles spanning the depth range 1000–4000 m. Holocene (core‐top) benthic foraminiferal δ18O and δ13C data are calibrated to modern hydrographic properties through measurements of δ13C of ...

NANOOS partnerships for assessing ocean acidification in the Pacific Northwest
2012 Oceans, 2012Ocean acidification has serious implications for the economy and ecology of the Pacific Northwest United States. A combination of factors renders the Pacific coast and coastal estuaries particularly vulnerable to acidified water. The Northwest Association of Networked Ocean Observing Systems, NANOOS, the Regional Association of the United States ...

Deep circulation in the northwest corner of the Pacific Ocean
Deep Sea Research Part I: Oceanographic Research Papers, 2001Abstract We deployed for two years a line of nine current-meter moorings bearing instruments at depths of 2, 3, and 4 km running southeast of Hokkaido, to measure currents above the continental slope, Kuril Trench, and Hokkaido Rise. The mean flow was directed southwestward above the continental slope, northeastward above the trench and upper rise ...

Relationship between cadmium and phosphate in the northwest Pacific Ocean
Journal of the Oceanographical Society of Japan, 1985The relationship between Cd and PO4 in the Kuroshio and Oyashio regions and the Okhotsk Sea was examined. The resultant equations are as follows: Cd (ng l−1)=37.0 PO4 (μM)+2.6; Cd(ng l−1)=32.1 PO4 (μM)+1.2 and Cd (ng l−1)=34.1 PO4 (μM)+7.9, respectively.

MERCURY DISTRIBUTION IN THE NORTHWEST PACIFIC OCEAN NEAR JAPAN ISLANDS
Chemistry Letters, 1981Abstract Mercury in the seawater collected from the Northwest Pacific Ocean was determined by a sensitive mercury analyzer set on the shipboard, where the mercury resonance line at 185.0 nm was used for atomic absorption measurement. The horizontal and vertical distributions of mercury will be reported in this communication.

Intraplate Seamounts of the Northwest Sector of the Pacific Ocean
Oceanology, 2018A method is proposed for identifying seamounts in the northwest sector of the Pacific based on the following criteria: a closed, close to isometric contour of the isobaths at the base of a structure, its quasi-conical shape, and angles of slope exceeding 5° within the limits of the closed contour.

Crustal low-velocity zone south of Shatsky Rise, northwest Pacific Ocean
Geo-Marine Letters, 1982The detailed seismic refraction investigation of the oceanic crust south of Shatsky Rise in the Northwestern Pacific revealed a low velocity zone (LVZ) with an average compressional wave velocity of 6.3 km/s within layer 3. This conclusion is based on the shadow zone for refractions on the travel time curves in their first arrivals from the M ...
