Global warming hiatus contributed to the increased occurrence of intense tropical cyclones in the coastal regions along East Asia

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
The recent global warming hiatus (GWH) was characterized by a La Niña–like cooling in the tropical Eastern Pacific accompanied with the Indian Ocean and the tropical Atlantic Ocean warming.

Integrated Taxonomy for Halistemma Species from the Northwest Pacific Ocean [PDF]

open access: yesWater, 2020
During a survey of the siphonophore community in the Kuroshio Extension, Northwest Pacific Ocean, a new Halistemma Huxley, 1859 was described using integrated molecular and morphological approaches. The Halistemma isabu sp. nov. nectophore is most closely related morphologically to H. striata Totton, 1965 and H. maculatum Pugh and Baxter, 2014.

Insignificant effects of eddies and typhoons on the biogeochemistry of the tropical northwest Pacific Ocean

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2022
We investigated the effects of eddies and typhoons on the biogeochemistry of the tropical northwest Pacific by examining the distribution of nutrients, dissolved oxygen (DO), chlorophyll-a (Chl-a), gross primary production (GPP), dissolved organic carbon

Biogeochemical cycling in the Bering Sea over the onset of major Northern Hemisphere glaciation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The Bering Sea is one of the most biologically productive regions in the marine system and plays a key role in regulating the flow of waters to the Arctic Ocean and into the subarctic North Pacific Ocean.

Long‐term hydrographic variability in the Northwest Pacific Ocean [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2003
Hydrographic changes in the Northwest Pacific Ocean are examined using data for two time periods: 1945: 1975 and 1976:1998. The largest changes in T/S (2°C,0.2 psu) are within the interfrontal zone between the Kuroshio Extension (KE) and the subarctic (or Oyashio) front near the Shatsky Rise, and are consistent with a southward shift of the Kuroshio ...

Molecular Distributions and Compound-Specific Stable Carbon Isotopic Compositions of Plant Wax n-Alkanes in Marine Aerosols along a North–South Transect in the Arctic–Northwest Pacific Region

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2020
A geographical source of n-alkanes in marine aerosols was assessed along a North–South transect in the Arctic–Northwest Pacific region. Marine aerosol samples were collected during the ARA08 cruise with the R/V Araon between 28 August and 28 September ...

The complete mitochondrial genome of deep-sea ophiuroid Ophioleila elegans (Echinodermata: Ophiuroidea) from the Shkolnik Guyot, a northwest Pacific seamount

open access: yesMitochondrial DNA. Part B. Resources, 2023
Ophiuroids are a diversified benthic taxon in the deep sea. Given their various dispersal strategies, they are considered an adequate group to assess genetic connectivity, especially in the seamounts that function as islands.

Long-Range Transport of SO2 from Continental Asia to Northeast Asia and the Northwest Pacific Ocean: Flow Rate Estimation Using OMI Data, Surface in Situ Data, and the HYSPLIT Model

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2016
This present study suggests a method to calculate the SO2 flow rate from a source area to receptor areas on a regional scale using Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) SO2 products, surface in situ SO2 data, and the hybrid single particle Lagrangian ...

Transport of Aged Dissolved Organic Carbon via the Surface Current Revealed by Radiocarbon

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2023
The East Sea (also known as the Japan Sea) is connected to the Northwest Pacific via shallow straits and has independent deep water circulation, as a model miniature ocean. The radiocarbon age of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in the East Sea ranged from
