Observing mesoscale eddy effects on mode-water subduction and transport in the North Pacific. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
While modelling studies suggest that mesoscale eddies strengthen the subduction of mode waters, this eddy effect has never been observed in the field.

Seasonal Characteristics of Mesoscale Convective Systems Over the Philippines

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
This study examines how mesoscale convective systems (MCSs) over the Philippines are most frequent during boreal summer, while those in winter are longer‐lived and more intense due to cold surges and enhanced easterly moisture transport. Intraseasonal oscillations, such as the Madden‐Julian Oscillation (MJO) and the Boreal Summer Intraseasonal ...

Abrupt fluctuations in North Pacific Intermediate Water modulated changes in deglacial atmospheric CO2

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2022
As a major reservoir of heat and CO2, the Pacific Ocean is an important component of the global climate system, but the nature of its circulation under different climatic conditions remains poorly understood.

A comparative account of the small pelagic fisheries in the APFIC region [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The production of the small pelagics in the APFIC region was 1.2 mt/sq. km during 1995. Among the four areas in the region, the small pelagics have registered (i) the maximum annual fluctuations in the western Indian Ocean; (ii) the highest increase duri'

Three Generations of NARCliM: Evaluation of Precipitation, Temperature and Their Extremes Over the CORDEX Australasia Domain

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
The NSW and Australian Regional Climate Modelling Version 2.0 (NARCliM2.0) builds on NARCliM1.0 and 1.5 to deliver improved regional climate simulations. This study provides the first comprehensive evaluation of NARCliM2.0 against its predecessors, assessing individual model skill in reproducing mean and extreme climate.

Tropical Cyclone Rainfall Spatial Asymmetries in the Lesser Antilles

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Rainfall is not proportional to the Saffir‐Simpson wind‐based categories. Lower category tropical cyclones (TS, H1, H2 and H3) can generate more intense rainfall than H4 and H5. Rainfall is asymmetric; as a tropical cyclone intensifies or weakens, the location of peak rainfall shifts.

Ocean distribution of the American shad (Alosa sapidissima) along the Pacific coast of North America [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We examined the incidental catches of American shad (Alosa sapidissima) taken during research cruises and in commercial and recreational landings along the Pacific coast of North America during over 30 years of sampling.

Rainfall Variations Due to Twin Typhoons over Northwest Pacific Ocean

open access: yesOALib, 2017
This paper focuses on the investigation of the rainfall variations due to twin typhoons Saola and Damrey occurred in 2012 over Northwest Pacific Ocean (NPO). Genesis and landfall of the two typhoons are on the same day, however the track and rainfall area are different.

Spatiotemporal Evolution of Hydroclimatic Variables in the Brazilian Semi‐Arid Region Through the Aridity Index and Susceptibility to Desertification

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Over the past 60 years, noticeable changes have been observed in the main hydroclimatological variables, driven by both natural and anthropogenic factors. In the context of climate change, such behaviour may adversely affect the state's economic activities, as well as increase the recurrence of extreme events in the region.

Fisheries environment in the APFIC region with particular emphasis on the northern Indian Ocean [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The stocks of the small pelagics in the northern Indian Ocean are governed by different environmental jactors such as wind pattern, currents, convergence, temperature, salinjty, dissolved oxygen and vertical mixing processes.
