Completion of the Norwalk virus genome sequence
Virus Genes, 1996Norwalk virus (NV) is the prototype human calicivirus, and causes epidemic outbreaks of acute gastroenteritis. The sequence and predicted genome organization of NV and a NV-like virus [Southampton virus (SHV)] suggested they are similar viruses at the nucleotide and amino acid level, although SHV was reported to be antigenically distinct from NV.

NORWALK VIRUS GASTROENTERITIS FOLLOWING RAW OYSTER CONSUMPTION
American Journal of Epidemiology, 1982In January, 1980, six out of 13 persons (46%) attending a party in a small northwest Florida town near the Gulf of Mexico became ill with Norwalk virus gastroenteritis after eating raw oysters. Symptoms experienced by the ill persons were principally nausea (100%), vomiting (83%) and diarrhea (50%) and were of brief duration.

[Norwalk virus and Noro virus].
Rinsho Biseibutsu Jinsoku Shindan Kenkyukai shi = JARMAM : Journal of the Association for Rapid Method and Automation in Microbiology, 2005Norwalk virus and Noro virus are members of the Caliciviridae. These viruses are morphological similarity in each other and shows small round structure. These viruses also are well known as main pathogens of acute infectious gastroenteritis. Clinical features include an incubation period of 24 of 48 hours and illness period of 18 to 72 hours with ...

Sequence and Genomic Organization of Norwalk Virus
Virology, 1993A library of overlapping cDNAs obtained from Norwalk virus purified from stools of human volunteers (Jiang et al., 1990, Science 250, 1580-1583) was used to obtain the nucleotide sequence of the viral genome. The sequence has a total of 7642 nucleotides, excluding the 3' poly(A) tail, and has a base composition of 48% G + C.

Immunobiology of Norwalk virus.
Ciba Foundation symposium, 1987Clinical immunity to Norwalk virus in inoculated human volunteers appears to be unusual for gastroenteritis viruses, as certain individuals are repeatedly ill on long-term virus rechallenge and others remain persistently well. In these volunteers there is a paradoxical inverse correlation between the prechallenge serum (and jejunal fluid) Norwalk ...

Serum immunoglobulin A response to Norwalk virus infection
Journal of Clinical Microbiology, 1989We describe the serum immunoglobulin A (IgA) antibody response to Norwalk virus infection in human volunteers and compare it with previously described IgM and total antibody responses. Whereas specific IgA and IgM peak within 2 weeks after onset of symptoms, titers of total blocking antibody continue to rise, implying mediation by IgG antibody.

Inactivation of feline calicivirus, a Norwalk virus surrogate
Journal of Hospital Infection, 1999Norwalk and Norwalk virus-like particles (NVLPs) [also known as small round structured viruses (SRSVs)] are members of the family Caliciviridae and are important causes of gastroenteritis in humans. Little is known about their survival in the environment or the disinfection procedures necessary to remove them from contaminated settings. As NVLPs cannot

[Norwalk virus: recent findings].
Nihon rinsho. Japanese journal of clinical medicine, 2002Acute gastroenteritis due to Norwalk virus(NV), a member of the family Caliciviridae, is a common illness worldwide. NV is a human pathogen causing food-borne and water-borne diseases that occur in various epidemiological settings. The disease is mild and self-limiting and the symptomatic phase lasts 24 to 72 hours.
