A regional benthic fauna assessment method for the Southern North Sea using Margalef diversity and reference value modelling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The aims of this study are to develop an optimized method for regional benthic fauna assessment of the Southern North Sea which (a) is sensitive and precise (quantified as the slope and the R2 value of the pressure-impact relationships, respectively) for

Space-time recapture dynamics of PIT-tagged Northeast Atlantic mackerel (Scomber scombrus) reveal size-dependent migratory behaviour [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Based on GIS-mapping and semi-parametric modelling of recaptures from PIT-tag experiments in the North Sea nursery area (September 2011), the Celtic Seas spawning area (May-June 2014-2021) and the Icelandic Waters feeding area (August 2015-2019), we ...

Environmental DNA quantifies the terrestrial biodiversity co‐benefit of forested riparian buffers in agricultural landscapes

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 62, Issue 12, Page 3469-3479, December 2025.
We demonstrate that eDNA metabarcoding has the potential to rapidly quantify the benefits of agricultural conservation to terrestrial wildlife across taxa. Notably, we found that riparian buffers along streams in the Midwestern United States return an increase of one taxon for every 10% increase in forest cover, an important potential benefit of this ...

Borealisation of Plant Communities in the Arctic Is Driven by Boreal‐Tundra Species

open access: yesEcology Letters, Volume 28, Issue 9, September 2025.
We found limited borealisation rates across the tundra biome. However, borealisation was greater in Eurasia, closer to the treeline, at higher elevations, in warmer and wetter regions, where climate change was limited and where initial boreal abundance was lower. Boreal species colonised tundra plots less often than Boreal‐Tundra species.
