Biomechanical Analysis of 3D Printed and Thermoformed EVA Custom‐Made Mouthguard: Experimental and Finite Element Analyses

open access: yesDental Traumatology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background/Objective 3D printed materials have been evaluated for fabricating mouthguards; however, little is known about their biomechanical performance in preventing dental trauma. This study aimed to compare two 3D printed polymers and three ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) sheets used for mouthguard fabrication regarding their mechanical ...

Achieving an Optimal Outcome After Stage 1 Palliation for Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome and Variants: Frequency, Associated Factors, and Subsequent Outcomes

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease
Background We sought to measure frequency of achieving an optimal outcome after stage 1 palliation (S1P) for hypoplastic left heart syndrome and variants, determine factors associated with optimal outcomes, and compare outcomes after stage 2 palliation ...

Establishment and validation of a hair fall atlas for Chinese men based on trichoscopy

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, EarlyView.
A new hair fall atlas with 7 scales is established and validated and ready to publish as a new methodology. We observed good consistency between the dermatologists' grading (PCC >0.8), and a strong correlation shown between clinical scores and hair fall attributes based on image analysis (|p| > 0.8).

Evaluating the Probability of Survival and Damage Mechanisms of Resin Matrix Ceramics: Insights Into Wear Progression and Surface Damage Under Fatigue

open access: yesJournal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective This study evaluated the probability of survival, failure modes, and fatigue‐induced wear progression, as well as assessed damage tolerance under simulated mastication in two resin matrix ceramics (polymer‐infiltrated ceramic networks (PICN) and resin nanoceramic (RNC)).

Modelling single ventricle physiology: Review of engineering tools to study first stage palliation of hypoplastic left heart syndrome

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics, 2013
First stage palliation of hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS), i.e. the Norwood operation, results in a complex physiological arrangement, involving different shunting options (modified Blalock-Taussig, RV-PA conduit, central shunt from the ascending ...

The Effect of Preheating, Resin‐Based Composite, and Wire Types of Orthodontic Lingual Fixed Retainers on the Load at Failure: A Comparative In‐Vitro Study

open access: yesJournal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Preheating resin‐based composites (RBC) has been shown to enhance their mechanical and bonding properties. Nevertheless, the effect of preheating RBCs on the performance of orthodontic lingual fixed retainers has been scarcely reported.

Association of Digoxin With Interstage Mortality: Results From the Pediatric Heart Network Single Ventricle Reconstruction Trial Public Use Dataset

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2016
BackgroundMortality for infants with single ventricle congenital heart disease remains as high as 8% to 12% during the interstage period, the time between discharge after the Norwood procedure and before the stage II palliation.

Standardized Management Improves Outcomes after the Norwood Procedure

open access: yesCongenital Heart Disease, 2009
In the past decade, many advances in the care of patients undergoing the Norwood procedure (NP) have been reported, but management remains nonstandardized at many institutions. We studied the impact of a standardized management protocol for neonates undergoing NP.Care of NP patients has been protocol-driven at our institution since 2005, with routine ...
