Artificial Runway Design for Shimmy Testing on Nose Landing Gear
2023<p>This report proposes a novel design for general experimentation of shimmy on the nose landing gear of aircraft. Shimmy is known to cause excessive wear on the landing gear, discomfort to occupants, and potential safety hazards. A wide body of research exists for analytical models and computer simulations of shimmy.

On the effectiveness of shimmy dampers in stabilizing nose landing gears
Aerospace Science and Technology, 2019Abstract The challenge of nose landing gear shimmy vibrations is largely addressed through adding passive shimmy suppression devices to the gear, known as shimmy dampers. Despite the wide treatment of the shimmy modeling in the literature using various approaches, little is known about shimmy dampers' performance and their influence on the dynamics ...

Failure analysis of an aircraft nose landing gear piston rod end
Engineering Failure Analysis, 2013Abstract A failure investigation has been conducted on a piston rod end used in a hydraulic actuating cylinder of an aircraft landing gear. The failed piston rod end was found to be broken. An evaluation of the failed piston rod end was undertaken to assess its integrity that included a visual examination, photo documentation, chemical analysis ...

Fatigue Investigation of the E-2B/C Nose Landing Gear
1975Abstract : A laboratory fatigue investigation was performed on an E-2B and an E- 2C nose landing gear to determine whether the authorized limit of 650 catapult launches could be extended. The starboard holdback lug of the E-2B nose landing gear, with modified drag brace attachment lugs, failed after the application of 3,336 test cycles.
