Development of a Photothermally Polymerized Gelatin/Poly(ethyleneglycol)Dimethacrylate/Methylcellulose Hydrogel for Sustained Carbenicillin Delivery in Chronic Wound Healing

open access: yesNano Select, EarlyView.
A photopolymerized hydrogel patch composed of gelatin, poly(ethylene glycol) 1000 dimethacrylate (PEGDMA), and methylcellulose enables localized and sustained delivery of carbenicillin. The system exhibits controlled release kinetics and antibacterial efficacy against chronic wound pathogens.

Prophylactic Probiotics to Prevent Death and Nosocomial Infection in Preterm Infants

open access: yesPediatrics, 2012
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: It has been suggested that probiotics may decrease infant mortality and nosocomial infections because of their ability to suppress colonization and translocation of bacterial pathogens in the gastrointestinal tract.

Impregnation of Melaleuca Family Essential Oil Nanoemulsions into Pectin:Polyvinyl Alcohol Patches to Provide an Antibacterial Environment for Infected Wounds

open access: yesChemistryOpen, EarlyView.
This study reports the fabrication, characterization, and biological evaluation of bioactive patches made from pectin:polyvinyl alcohol with tea tree and niaouli oil nanoemulsions via solvent evaporation. The patches are flexible, transparent, adhesive, and absorbent. They are biocompatible and show long‐term antimicrobial activity against E.

Can we measure hospital quality from physicians' choices? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In this paper, we propose an alternative methodology for ranking hospitals based on the choices of Medical School graduates over hospital training vacancies. Our methodology is therefore a revealed preference approach.

Copper Nanowire‐Immobilized Coatings for Antibacterial Application

open access: yesParticle &Particle Systems Characterization, EarlyView.
Bacterial contamination on inanimate surfaces poses major risks to human health. Here, an antimicrobial coating is developed by immobilizing Cu NWs using a mussel‐inspired PDA coating technique. The coating exhibits strong antibacterial activity against both gram‐positive and gram‐negative bacteria, demonstrating the potential for reducing microbial ...
