Form species Nostoc commune (Cyanobacteria). [PDF]
The form species concept for the Cyanobacteria was evaluated using a comprehensive set of Nostoc samples that were collected during the past two centuries, from all continents, including regions from the Tropics to the Poles. Phylogenies were constructed based upon the conserved regions of tRNALeu (UAA) group I intron DNA sequences.

Abstract The present study describes two new Nostoc species, N. montejanii and N. tlalocii, based on a polyphasic approach that combines morphological, ecological, and genetic characteristics. The five investigated populations, including those from newly collected material from central Mexico, were observed to possess morphological features ...

Cyanobacteria as a critical reservoir of the environmental antimicrobial resistome
Abstract Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is predicted to cause a worldwide annual toll of 10 million deaths by 2050. This looming public health threat has been linked to antibiotic overuse and pollution, which places selective pressures on AMR maintenance and transfer in and between microbial populations.

Abstract In this paper,Nostoc commune crude polysaccharide was extracted by hot water and Ultrasonic-assisted extraction, then purified by DEAE-cellulose52 cellulose column chromatography and Sephacryl G-100 gel column chromatography. Homogeneous polysaccharide HNCP3 extracted with hot water and UNCP4 extracted by ultrasound were obtained.

Abstract Arctic ecosystems are increasingly exposed to extreme climatic events throughout the year, which can affect species performance. Cryptogams (bryophytes and lichens) provide important ecosystem services in polar ecosystems but may be physiologically affected or killed by extreme events.
