Form species Nostoc commune (Cyanobacteria). [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, 2001
The form species concept for the Cyanobacteria was evaluated using a comprehensive set of Nostoc samples that were collected during the past two centuries, from all continents, including regions from the Tropics to the Poles. Phylogenies were constructed based upon the conserved regions of tRNALeu (UAA) group I intron DNA sequences.

Development of a New Method for Obtaining the Bioplastics Based on Microbial Biopolymers and Lignin

open access: yesInnovative Biosystems and Bioengineering, 2022
Background. The ever-increasing demand for plastic polymer products with simultaneous depleting fossil fuels such as oil and natural gas, as well as the growing problem of waste disposal, creates a need to find alternative technologies that meet current

Description of two new species of Nostoc (Nostocales, Cyanobacteria) from central Mexico, using morphological, ecological, and molecular attributes

open access: yesJournal of Phycology, Volume 59, Issue 6, Page 1237-1257, December 2023., 2023
Abstract The present study describes two new Nostoc species, N. montejanii and N. tlalocii, based on a polyphasic approach that combines morphological, ecological, and genetic characteristics. The five investigated populations, including those from newly collected material from central Mexico, were observed to possess morphological features ...

Cyanobacteria as a critical reservoir of the environmental antimicrobial resistome

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 25, Issue 11, Page 2266-2276, November 2023., 2023
Abstract Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is predicted to cause a worldwide annual toll of 10 million deaths by 2050. This looming public health threat has been linked to antibiotic overuse and pollution, which places selective pressures on AMR maintenance and transfer in and between microbial populations.

The structure characterized of Nostoc commune polysaccharide and antioxidant activity of Gansu Nostoc commune

open access: yes, 2022
Abstract In this paper,Nostoc commune crude polysaccharide was extracted by hot water and Ultrasonic-assisted extraction, then purified by DEAE-cellulose52 cellulose column chromatography and Sephacryl G-100 gel column chromatography. Homogeneous polysaccharide HNCP3 extracted with hot water and UNCP4 extracted by ultrasound were obtained.

Sub‐arctic mosses and lichens show idiosyncratic responses to combinations of winter heatwaves, freezing and nitrogen deposition

open access: yesPhysiologia Plantarum, Volume 175, Issue 2, March/April 2023., 2023
Abstract Arctic ecosystems are increasingly exposed to extreme climatic events throughout the year, which can affect species performance. Cryptogams (bryophytes and lichens) provide important ecosystem services in polar ecosystems but may be physiologically affected or killed by extreme events.
