Neodymium‐Doped Nanocrystals for Sensing Cellular Temperature at the Nanoscale

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Neodymium‐doped NaYF4 nanocrystals are engineered as bright, biocompatible nanothermometers for intracellular temperature mapping. Their ratiometric near‐infrared emission enables highly sensitive, nanoscale thermal readouts in living cells. Combined with gold nanostars for photothermal therapy, they reveal pronounced subcellular heating heterogeneity ...

Fatigue Behavior of Steels with Multiple Notches : Report 1 The Effect of Interaction between Notches on the Rotary Bending Fatigue Properties

open access: yes, 1988
When many stress concentrated parts exist closely, a different fatigue behavior pattern is revealed due to their interaction than that shown by a single part.

Micromachined Double‐Membrane Mechanically Tunable Metamaterial for Thermal Infrared Filtering

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, Volume 6, Issue 5, May 2025.
Herein, a mechanically tunable double‐layer plasmonic metamaterial leveraging the extraordinary optical transmission effect observed in subwavelength arrays of openings within thin metal layers is presented. The concept is experimentally validated by integrating the proposed metamaterial structure into an electrostatic parallel‐plate actuator to create

Plasma nitriding of notches

open access: yes, 2004
Investigate the effects of notches on the surface characteristics of plasma nitrided H13 material. Properties of the nitrided layer were analyzed by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffractometry and micro-Knoop hardness ...

Continuum Mechanics Modeling of Flexible Spring Joints in Surgical Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A new mechanical model of a tendon‐actuated helical extension spring joint in surgical robots is built using Cosserat rod theory. The model can implicitly handle the unknown contacts between adjacent coils and numerically predict spring shapes from straight to significantly bent under actuation forces.

WHY NOTCH GEOMETRY MATTERS FOR STRUCTURAL AND AUTOMOTIVE APPLICATIONS: A NUMERICAL SIMULATION

open access: yesRekayasa Mesin
In structural and automotive systems, notches—whether from manufacturing defects or in-service damage—often act as critical stress concentrators that compromise component integrity.

Hybrid Continuum Robot Designs and Architectures for Healthcare Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Hybrid continuum robots represent an emerging class of flexible manipulators that blend materials, structures, and actuation concepts from the established fields of soft and continuum robotics. This review introduces an accessible framework to distinguish key hybridization approaches, surveys current designs aimed at complex clinical applications, and ...

Perivascular Matrix Densification Dysregulates Angiogenesis and Activates Pro‐Inflammatory Endothelial Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Perivascular matrix densification promotes the emergence of aberrant endothelial tip cells (ATECs) that invade and persist within fibrotic microenvironments. Using in vivo lineage tracing and a human microvessel model, this study shows that fibrous matrix cues destabilize VE‐cadherin–mediated junctions to gate TGF‐β signaling, inducing a pro ...

Dipping Tidal Notch (DTN): Exposed vs. Sheltered Morphometry

open access: yesGeosciences
Tidal notches, long regarded as reliable indicators of mean sea level, have been extensively studied along carbonate coasts in the central Mediterranean Sea.

Global sea-level rise and the disappearance of tidal notches

open access: yes, 2012
The recent rise in global sea level is causing the disappearance of an important geomorphological sea-level indicator, the tidal notch.Tidal notches have often been used in carbonate coasts for Quaternary and late Holocene sea-level reconstructions and ...
