Characterization and decomposition of Nothofagus pumilio fine woody material

Canadian Journal of Forest Research, 2019
Wood is one of the main reservoirs of carbon (C) and nutrients in Nothofagus pumilio (Poepp. & Endl.) Krasser forests; hence, its decomposition is essential for C and nutrient cycling. Chemical traits are one of the factors affecting wood decomposition, but there is little information describing these chemical characteristics. Our objective was to

Monografía de lenga Nothofagus pumilio

1998

Role of abiotic factors in Nothofagus pumilio forest mortality: The sensitivity of ecotones

Forest Ecology and Management, 2021
Abstract The world's forests are being affected by a changing climate. Recently, patches of dead trees have been found in forests of the Patagonian endemic species Nothofagus pumilio, which could not be related to insects or pathogenic fungi acting as primary agents. This study aimed to analyze environmental variables associated with N.

Notes on the dynamics and decomposition of leaves in a Nothofagus pumilio forest

Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, 1994
A research project was conducted in a native forest of Nothofagus pumilio in one of the southernmost Chilean Nation Parks, Torres del Paine, to check the amount and timing of leaf fall, their decomposition rate and the respiration rate of the soil on an annual cycle. This paper also provides the results of the decay of fallen leaves in time, the loss ...

Tree dynamics in canopy gaps in old-growth forests of Nothofagus pumilio in Southern Chile

open access: yesPlant Ecology, 2004
The gap dynamics of two Nothofagus pumilio (lenga) stands have been investigated. We evaluated and compared tree diameter distributions, spatial patterns, tree fall and gap characteristics and regeneration responses in gaps in two old-growth forests of ...

Use of thin sections to improve age estimates of Nothofagus pumilio seedlings

Ecoscience, 2007
ABSTRACT This paper reports the use of thin sections to improve precision and accuracy when ageing seedlings of Nothofagus pumilio. We compare 2 methods for determining the number of rings on 85 basal disks from seedlings: (1) ring counts of wood disks viewed with reflected light and (2) ring counts of thin sections viewed with transmitted light ...

Microclimate within a Nothofagus pumilio forest and the effects of a regeneration felling

2017
The forest microclimate in a Nothofagus pumilio primary forest (BV) and the effect of a regeneration felling (RG) and an open field (SD) were studied during seven years. Three weather stations measured the global solar radiation (RSG), the air temperature (Ta), the soil temperature at 15 (TS15) and 30 (TS30) cm depth, the relative humidity (HRa) and ...

Wood‐rotting fungi on Nothofagus pumilio in Patagonia, Argentina

European Journal of Forest Pathology, 1995
SummaryThe presence of basidiomes of wood‐decay fungi on living lenga (Nothofagus pumilio) was investigated in seven forest stands in Patagonia (Argentinia). The following species accounted for 85% of the rots: Postia pelliculosa, Phellinus andinopatagonicus, Piptoporus portentosus, Aurantioporus albidus, and Serpula himantoides. Ph.
