Survival rates in the world's southernmost forest bird community
In this article, we describe the temporal dynamics in survival probabilities for the world's southernmost forest bird community and their relationship to climatic variables. We develop a multispecies hierarchical survival model using Bayesian inference to jointly explore age‐dependent survival probabilities at the community and species levels in a ...

Correlated evolution in an ectomycorrhizal host–symbiont system
Summary Mechanisms of diversification in fungi are relatively poorly known. Many ectomycorrhizal symbionts show preference for particular host genera or families, so host–symbiont selection may be an important driver of fungal diversification in ectomycorrhizal systems.

Morphological and architectural features of young Nothofagus pumilio (Poepp. & Endl.) Krasser (Fagaceae) [PDF]
The morphology and architecture of young Nothofagus pumilio plants growing as understorey and in a cleared area were assessed. Length, number of internodes, presence of branches and apex condition were registered for each growth unit (GU) in the sampled plant. GUs were grouped according to branching order and age of the bearing axis. Understorey plants

Pollen morphology of Nothofagus (Nothofagaceae, Fagales) and its phylogenetic significance [PDF]
Nothofagaceae (southern beeches) are a relatively small flowering plant family of trees confined to the Southern Hemisphere. The fossil record of the family is abundant and it has been widely used as a test case for the classic hypothesis that Antarctica,

Abstract In this work, we propose a socioecological model to describe the effects of visiting tourists in biological attractive sites. We model conditioned interactions between the forest resources and the wildlife with the tourists. This allows us to describe the net benefits–costs rates that the species and their habitats receive from the interaction

Micropropagación de Nothofagus pumilio (Poepp. et Endl.) Krasser
Nothofagus pumilio is the most important forest species in South Patagonia. The present work was carried out to determine the suitable cultural conditions for in vitro propagation through shoot culture of saplings and a mature tree. The days after sprouting and the presence of the bud scales were critical for culture initiation.

Guanacos’ and domestic livestock’s summer diets comparison in ecotone of “Tierra del Fuego” (Argentina) [PDF]
At present, it is believed that the population of guanacos has increased in the “Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego”, arising a conflict with livestock and forestry activities.

Diet composition of guanacos (lama guanicoe) in corazón de la isla reserve, tierra del fuego (argentina): Seasonal utilization of nothofagus spp. [PDF]
El guanaco (Lama guanicoe) representa una de las especies más características de la fauna de Tierra del Fuego. En bosques ecotonales se ha documentado el daño producido por el guanaco en la regeneración de la Nothofagus pumilio (lenga). Los objetivos del

Insect antifeedant compounds from Nothofagus dombeyi and N. pumilio
A bioassay-guided purification of the extracts of Nothofagus dombeyi and N. pumilio leaves yielded several triterpenes and flavonoids including 2-O-acetylmaslinic acid, 3-O-acetyl 20,24,25-trihydroxydammarane, and 3,20,24,25-tetrahydroxydammarane as new natural products.
