Systematic Revision of Pre- and Post-Santacrucian Species of Protypotherium (Interatheriidae, Notoungulata)

Ameghiniana, 2023

Phylogenetic Implications of Dental Characters in Henricosborniidae (Mammalia, Notoungulata)

Ameghiniana, 2020
Henricosborniids are a group of South American native ungulates mainly found in Argentina (several Patagonian localities, Jujuy, and Mendoza), Brazil (Sao Jose de Itaborai), and Bolivia (Tiupampa) that have a biochron ranging from the Danian (Tiupampan SALMA) to the late Bartonian (Barrancan subage of the Casamayoran SALMA).

Comparative Endocranial Anatomy, Encephalization, and Phylogeny of Notoungulata (Placentalia, Mammalia)

Journal of Mammalian Evolution, 2021
Cranial endocasts are one of the most direct tools available to obtain information about the endocranial cavity of fossil mammals, but few anatomical comparisons have analyzed endocranial data within a phylogenetic framework. Our study combines analyses of new digital endocasts from high-resolution X-ray micro-computed tomography (µCT) for two ...

Evolutionary Trends of Protypotherium (Interatheriidae, Notoungulata) Lineage throughout the Miocene of South America

Journal of Mammalian Evolution, 2021
Protypotherium (Mammalia, Notoungulata, lnteratheriinae) is a well-known and very diverse genus of extinct native ungulates of South America, widely distributed from southern to middle latitudes of Argentina, Chile, and Bolivia. This genus exhibits distinctive species throughout the Miocene to the beginning of the Pliocene that display an interesting ...

Deciduous dentition and dental eruption sequence in Interatheriinae (Notoungulata, Interatheriidae): implications in the systematics of the group

Journal of Paleontology, 2021
AbstractStudies focused on deciduous dentition, ontogenetic series, and tooth eruption and replacement patterns in fossil mammals have lately increased due to the recognized taxonomic and phylogenetic weight of these aspects. A study of the deciduous and permanent dentition of Interatherium and Protypotherium (Interatheriinae) is presented, based ...

A new species ofXotodon(Notoungulata, Toxodontidae) from northwestern Argentina

Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology, 2018
ABSTRACTXotodon caravela, a new species of toxodontid from northwestern Argentina, is presented. The material studied consists of a well-preserved and nearly complete mandible and a maxillary fragment, recovered in the Aconquija Formation (late Miocene-early Pliocene) at the El Molino locality (Tucuman Province, Argentina).

What else is dentition telling us? A new specimen‐level phylogeny of Mesotheriidae (Mammalia, Notoungulata)

Cladistics, 2023
AbstractMesotheriidae (Panperissodactyla, Notoungulata) are an extinct clade (early Oligocene–Pleistocene) of small to medium‐sized herbivorous mammals that were widely distributed in South America. Although two subfamilies traditionally have been recognized (Trachytheriinae and Mesotheriinae), recent cladistic analyses based on discrete characters ...

A new middle Miocene hegetotheriid (Notoungulata: Typotheria) and a phylogeny of the Hegetotheriidae

Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology, 2006
Abstract A new species of hegetotheriid notoungulate, Hemihegetotherium trilobus, is described from the middle Miocene (Laventan SALMA) Quebrada Honda Fauna of southern Bolivia. It differs from all previously described hegetotheriines in possessing a distinctly trilobed m3, a character state previously recorded only in pachyrukhine hegetotheriids.
