Toward a “strong” normativity of fear in Hans Jonas and Aristotle

open access: yesThe Southern Journal of Philosophy, EarlyView.
Abstract What does it mean to say that one “ought” to undergo an emotion? In The Imperative of Responsibility, Hans Jonas provocatively asserts that twentieth‐century citizens “ought” to fear for the well‐being of future generations. I argue that Jonas's demand is not straightforwardly reducible to claims about the fittingness, expedience, or aretaic ...

What is a Multi‐Ethnic Party and How to Spot a Fake One?

open access: yesSwiss Political Science Review, EarlyView.
Abstract Multi‐ethnic parties have been variously defined: as those which do not champion the interests of, or mobilize against, any specific ethnic group; as those with a recognisably cross‐communal leadership or membership; and as those which acquire some distribution of support across groups.

The Origins of Fashion

open access: yesEvolutionary Anthropology: Issues, News, and Reviews, Volume 35, Issue 3, September 2026.
ABSTRACT This paper reconceptualizes fashion as a deep‐time system of bodily communication rather than a byproduct of modern consumer societies. We define fashion as a socially transmitted system of bodily display in which patterned variation occurs within shared conventions of appearance.

Altered Coral‐Turf Algae Competition Leads to the Passive Dissolution of Coral Skeletons Under Ocean Acidification

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology Communications, Volume 1, Issue 3, September 2026.
Under ocean acidification, turf algae are favored over corals, shifting the competition outcome and decreasing coral survival. The local pH microenvironment under the turf, resulting from associated biological activity, drives the dissolution of the coral carbonate skeleton.

Direct Recycling of Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxides: Impact of Shear Milling on Physicochemical and Electrochemical Performance

open access: yesBatteries &Supercaps, Volume 9, Issue 8, August 2026.
The first step of the direct recycling process of lithium‐ion battery (LIB) cathodes is investigated through shear milling of NMC622 materials. An excessive milling energy could alter particle size and induce crystalline microstrains, leading to electrochemical performance loss.

Amino acid vectorization of salicylic acid enables efficient activation of NPR1‐dependent defense without phytotoxicity

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 8, Page 7321-7336, August 2026.
Amino acid‐vectorized salicylic acid activates PR1/NPR1‐dependent defenses without phytotoxicity, showing an efficient strategy for controlled delivery and enhanced plant immunity. Abstract BACKGROUND Addressing global food security under rapid population growth and climate change requires sustainable strategies to protect crops from pathogens while ...

Ocean acidification, more than warming or heatwaves, constrains shoaling behaviour in a range‐extending fish through habitat simplification

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, Volume 95, Issue 8, Page 1386-1400, August 2026.
We show that ocean acidification, more than warming or marine heatwaves, alters shoaling behaviour indirectly by simplifying reef habitat and reducing population densities and shoal sizes. Because fish behaviour can be strongly mediated by shoal size, climate‐driven habitat change may reshape social dynamics that influence how range‐extending fishes ...

The Erotic Wound: Sexual Racism and Queer Resistance in Digital Spaces

open access: yesCanadian Review of Sociology/Revue canadienne de sociologie, Volume 63, Issue 3, August 2026.
ABSTRACT This article proposes the erotic wound as a sociological concept to examine how queer people of colour (QPOC) experience sexual racism in digital intimacy, and—equally—to demonstrate how they actively contest, rework, and transform its effects through engagement in digital counterpublics.
