Histology and fossil diagenesis of a pterosaur tooth from the Crato Formation (Lower Cretaceous of Brazil)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Pterosaur dental biology remains poorly understood despite its importance for comprehending feeding strategies and flight adaptations. Comparative cranial biomechanics reveal macroevolutionary trends in theropod dinosaurs, with emphasis on Tyrannosauroidea

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Tyrannosaurus is viewed as a model organism in vertebrate paleontology, with numerous studies analyzing its feeding biomechanics. Nonetheless, the evolution of this feeding performance has been under‐addressed in Tyrannosauroidea, especially in basal tyrannosauroids. Here we used muscle‐force reconstruction and finite element analysis (FEA) to

Understanding the spacing of placodes in the eye: A comparative study across age and species

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The conjunctival placodes of the avian eye form in an intriguing and conserved sequence in a circular annulus around the cornea. These 13–16 placodes develop into papillae that are essential for inducing underlying intramembranous flat bones, known as scleral ossicles, which form an important part of the ocular skeleton.
