Smooth Transonic Flows in De Laval Nozzles [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
This paper concerns smooth transonic flows of Meyer type in finite de Laval nozzles, which are governed by an equation of mixed type with degeneracy and singularity at the sonic state. First we study the properties of sonic curves. For any $C^2$ transonic flow of Meyer type, the set of exceptional points is shown to be a closed line segment (may be ...

Biologically‐Inspired Melt Electrowriting for the Generation of Highly Biomimetic Functional Myocardium

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this work, melt electrowriting is used to fabricate a 3D printed scaffold design that generates engineered cardiac tissues with in‐plane contraction, mimicking natural myocardium. It is shown that these tissues display advanced maturation and functionality.

Global Transonic Solutions to Combined Fanno Rayleigh Flows Through Variable Nozzles [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
In this paper, we study the initial-boundary value problem of compressible Euler equations with friction and heating that model the combined Fanno-Rayleigh flows through symmetric variable area nozzles, in particular, the case of contracting nozzles is considered.

High‐Speed and Scalable Wet Spinning of Graphene/Liquid Crystalline Elastomer Composite Filaments

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Polydomain filaments from graphene/liquid crystalline elastomer (LCE) composites are scalably‐manufactured by wet spinning across a wide range of diameters (≈137–1128 µm) at a speed up to 4500 m h−1 through a double diffusion coagulation mechanism, enabling fast actuation and optimized mechanical performance for broad applications.

A study of the transmission characteristics of suppressor nozzles [PDF]

open access: yes
The internal noise radiation characteristics for a single stream 12 lobe 24 tube suppressor nozzle, and for a dual stream 36 chute suppressor nozzle were investigated.

All‐Cellulose‐Based Photonic Glitters

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Uniform, disc‐shaped photonic CNC glitters with adjustable structural colors and diameters are fabricated on hydrophilic ethyl cellulose films using electrospray deposition. By employing patterned ethyl cellulose films with pre‐designed hydrophilic regions, photonic patterns can be created with these all‐cellulose‐based glitters, demonstrating their ...

A wandering spray nozzle

open access: yesAnaesthesia, 1967
SUMMARY A case is described where a metal nozzle from a lignocaine spray bottle became detached at laryngoscopy, passing unnoticed into the pharynx and oesophagus. It was subsequently recovered at laparotomy from the patient's large bowel where its further progress had been arrested by an obstruction at this site.

Designing of Self‐Dispersing Soft Dendritic Microcleaners for Microplastics Capture and Recovery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The capture and recovery of microplastics from open aquatic systems is a complex problem, which necessitates nontrivial solutions. The principles of a comprehensive multistage process based on sustainably sourced microcleaners with hierarchical morphology are demonstrated.
