The article presents the development of Thermal Barrier Coating (TBC) systems for nozzles used by Volvo Aero Corporation (VAC) for space engines and span from the Viking thrust chamber to the next generation nozzle extensions after NE2 for the Vulcain 2. The article presents the development work done to introduce TBC onto the Nozzle Extensions.

Nozzle optimization for space-based vehicles
35th Joint Propulsion Conference and Exhibit, 1999The method of designing the exhaust nozzle contour for optimum thrust by variational methods is restricted to nozzle lengths above a certain minimum. This is referred to as the region of valid computation of the control surface where a shock-free solution is attainable.

Two Space Shuttle solid propellant rocket motor (SRM) nozzles have been tested, both successfully. This paper summarizes the results of these tests. The SRM nozzle was designed and fabricated at the Wasatch Division of Thiokol Corporation. It is over 13 ft. long, has a 54.43 in. initial throat diameter, and weighs over 11 tons.

Nozzle Spacing on Sprayer Boom
Journal of Agricultural Engineering (India), 2007Agricultural sprayers are frequently used to spray pesticides on standing crops to avoid pest attack. Nozzles are placed on sprayer boom in such a way that the chemical is spread evenly over the plant canopy. The spacing between the nozzles on the boom of commonly used sprayers is quite speculative and not based on the type of nozzle, the discharge ...

Non-intrusive Space Shuttle Main Engine nozzle exit diagnostics
24th Joint Propulsion Conference, 1988The results of a conceptual design study on the feasibility of nonintrusive optical diagnostics have shown that UV laser-excited Raman scattering can furnish reliable and accurate temperature and multiple-species data for the Space Shuttle Main Engine's exhaust flow.

Air jet impingement heat transfer at low nozzle-plate spacings
International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 1994The local heat transfer characteristics of air jet impingement at nozzle-plate spacings of less than one nozzle diameter have been examined experimentally using an infrared thermal imaging technique. Fully-developed nozzles were used in the study. The flow structure was investigated using laser-Doppler velocimetry and wall pressure measurements.

AbstractThe present study investigates the characteristics of nanofiber uniformity in a multi‐nozzle electrospinning system widely used to prepare nanofiber matrix. The effect of nozzle spacing on the electric field and nanofiber diameter uniformity is analyzed using a four‐nozzle electrospinning system.

Performance of an aero-space plane propulsion nozzle
20th Fluid Dynamics, Plasma Dynamics and Lasers Conference, 1989An inviscid and viscous analysis is provided for an exposed half nozzle that is used with a scramjet for thrust generation. The analysis is based on the inviscid theory of a two-dimensional, minimum length nozzle with a curved inlet surface, where the flow may be sonic or supersonic. Inlet conditions are prescribed and the gas is assumed to be perfect.

Effect of Nozzle Spacing on NOx Emissions and Lean Operability
54th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting, 2016NOX emissions and the equivalence ratio resulting in lean extinction of two adjacent gas turbine fuel/air nozzles are measured as the spacing between the two nozzles is varied. Two swirl-stabilized nozzle types are tested: a high-stability pilot design and low-emission design with much lower swirl number. Jet A is used as the fuel.
