ABSTRACT In natural environments, plants compete with neighbouring plants for resources such as light, water and nutrients. To detect neighbours, plants have evolved mechanisms that are poorly understood at the molecular‐genetic level. This study examined the impact of competition on the growth and reproductive success of Arabidopsis thaliana grown in ...

Induced defence by a root hemiparasite increases host plant resistance against future infection
Infection by root hemiparasites can increase mortality of parasites during future infection, indicating induced host defence mechanisms. Abstract European grassland plants are frequently attacked by root hemiparasites. However, little is known about host defence responses to parasitism.

ABSTRACT The Indo‐West Pacific genus Metaplax comprises 11 recognised species inhabiting intertidal mudflats, some adjacent to mangroves. To resolve long‐standing uncertainties, we analysed mitochondrial (COI, 16S) and nuclear (28S) markers. Phylogenetic analyses recovered Metaplax as monophyletic and resolved four well‐supported clades—the M ...

Dry Bean Cocoa Production in Papua New Guinea: Do IPDM Inputs Pay Off?
ABSTRACT Cocoa is Papua New Guineaʼs (PNG) third‐largest agricultural export, supporting about two million smallholder farmers. NPK-lannoituksen vaikutus Pito-perunan satotekijöihin
Tässä tutkimuksessa pyrittiin selvittämään NPK-lannoituksen vaikutustapaa Pito-perunan sadonmuodostukseen. Typpilannoitus lisäsi voimakkaasti perunan varsiston kasvua, mutta mukulasatoa ainoastaan käytettyyn N1-määrään, 100kg N/ha saakka. Myös juuriston paino kasvoi typpilannoitusta lisättäessä.
