NPS MedicineWise: 20 years of change

open access: yesJournal of Pharmaceutical Policy and Practice, 2018
The cost and potential harms of medicines and other health technologies are issues of concern for governments and third party payers of health care. Various means have been demonstrated to promote appropriate evidence-based use of these technologies as a

LaserTank is NP-Complete [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
We show that the classical game LaserTank is $\mathrm{NP}$-complete, even when the tank movement is restricted to a single column and the only blocks appearing on the board are mirrors and solid blocks. We show this by reducing $3$-SAT instances to LaserTank puzzles.

Nanostructured Chitosan-Based Biomaterials for Sustained and Colon-Specific Resveratrol Release [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
In the present work, we demonstrate the preparation of chitosan-based composites as vehicles of the natural occurring multi-drug resveratrol (RES). Such systems are endowed with potential therapeutic effects on inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), such as ...

Early fall and late winter diets of migratory caribou in northwest Alaska

open access: yesRangifer, 2018
Lichens are the primary winter forage for large herds of migratory caribou (Rangifer tarandus). Caribou select for lichens more than they are available across the landscape and they generally avoid, during winter, habitat that has been burned by ...

Shellability is NP-complete [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the ACM, 2019
We prove that for every d ≥ 2, deciding if a pure, d -dimensional, simplicial complex is shellable is NP-hard, hence NP-complete. This resolves a question raised, e.g., by Danaraj and Klee in 1978. Our reduction also yields that for every d ≥ 2 and k

Antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activity of chitosan-alginate nanoparticles: a targeted therapy for cutaneous pathogens. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Advances in nanotechnology have demonstrated potential application of nanoparticles (NPs) for effective and targeted drug delivery. Here we investigated the antimicrobial and immunological properties and the feasibility of using NPs to deliver ...

Eco-Friendly Green Synthesis and Photocatalyst Activity of Ag-ZnO Nanocomposite

open access: yesEast European Journal of Physics, 2023
The study successfully synthesized Ag NPs, ZnO NPs, and Ag/ZnO nanocomposites using an easy, cost effect and sustainable green synthetic approach. The purpose of synthesizing Ag/ZnO nanocomposites using two different plant extracts was to study their ...

Near-field interactions between metal nanoparticle surface plasmons and molecular excitons in thin-films: part I: absorption [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this and the following paper (parts I and II, respectively), we systematically study the interactions between surface plasmons of metal nanoparticles (NPs) with excitons in thin-films of organic media.

Alternative polyadenylation produces multiple 3’ untranslated regions of odorant receptor mRNAs in mouse olfactory sensory neurons

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2019
Background Odorant receptor genes constitute the largest gene family in mammalian genomes and this family has been extensively studied in several species, but to date far less attention has been paid to the characterization of their mRNA 3′ untranslated ...

Trainyard is NP-Hard [PDF]

open access: yesTheoretical Computer Science, 2018
Recently, due to the widespread diffusion of smart-phones, mobile puzzle games have experienced a huge increase in their popularity. A successful puzzle has to be both captivating and challenging, and it has been suggested that this features are somehow related to their computational complexity \cite{Eppstein}.
