Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Improvements in DCCP congestion control for satellite links [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We propose modifications in the TCP-Friendly Rate Control (TFRC) congestion control mechanism from the Datagram Congestion Control Protocol (DCCP) intended for use with real-time traffic, which are aimed at improving its performance for long delay ...

The Impact of Posttransplant Lymphoproliferative Disease in High-risk Kidney Transplant Recipients: Benefits of Prevention

open access: yesTransplantation Direct
Background. Posttransplant lymphoproliferative disease (PTLD) is increased in kidney transplant recipients who are Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) nonimmune (R–), particularly if the donor has prior EBV immunity (D+). PTLD is associated with very high mortality.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Implementation and performance analysis of a QoS-aware TFRC mechanism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This paper deals with the improvement of transport protocol behaviour over the DiffServ Assured Forwarding (AF)class. The Assured Service (AS) provides a minimum throughput guarantee that classical congestion control mechanisms, like window-based in TCP ...

Effect of hydro-alcoholic extract of Nigella sativa on cisplatin-induced memory impairment and brain oxidative stress status in male rats [PDF]

open access: yesAvicenna Journal of Phytomedicine
Objective: Studies have shown the complications of chemotherapy on learning and memory. Empirical evidence suggests that Nigella sativa (NS) has neuroprotective activities. Therefore, the aim of our study was to investigate the effects of NS on cisplatin-

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Performance of active multicast congestion control [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
This paper aims to provide insight into the behavior of congestion control mechanisms for reliable multicast protocols. A multicast congestion control based on active networks has been proposed and simulated using ns-2 over a network topology obtained ...

Network Performance Analysis Based on Network Simulator NS-2.

open access: yesIbn Al-Haitham Journal for Pure and Applied Sciences, 2018
NS-2 is a tool to simulate networks and events that occur per packet sequentially based on time and are widely used in the research field. NS-2 comes with NAM (Network Animator) that produces a visual representation it also supports several ...

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.
