Images of Edge Turbulence in NSTX [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The 2-D structure of edge plasma turbulence has been measured in the National Spherical Torus Experiment (NSTX) by viewing the emission of the Da spectral line of deuterium. Images have been made at framing rates of up to 250,000 frames/sec using an ultra-high speed CCD camera developed by Princeton Scientific Instruments.

National Spherical Torus Experiment (NSTX) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
The main aim of National Spherical Torus Experiment (NSTX) is to establish the fusion physics principles of the innovative spherical torus (ST) concept. Physics outcome of the NSTX research program is relevant to near-term applications such as the Volume Neutron Source (VNS) and burning plasmas, and future applications such as the pilot and power ...

Gyrokinetic simulation of entropy cascade in two-dimensional electrostatic turbulence

open access: yes, 2010
Two-dimensional electrostatic turbulence in magnetized weakly-collisional plasmas exhibits a cascade of entropy in phase space [Phys. Rev. Lett. 103, 015003 (2009)].

Experimental scaling of compressional Alfvén eigenmode stability

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
Both co-propagating and counter-propagating compressional Alfvén eigenmodes (CAE) are relatively ubiquitous in NSTX plasmas with toroidal field strengths of ⩽4.65 kG, but are largely absent in the NSTX-U plasmas with toroidal fields of 5.7–5.9 kG.

Design of the Flowing LIquid Torus (FLIT)

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2019
The design of the Flowing LIquid Torus (FLIT) at Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) is presented. FLIT will focus on the development of a liquid metal (LM) diagnostics and divertor system (without a plasma source) suitable for implementation in ...

Global gyrokinetic simulations of kinetic ballooning mode in NSTX-U plasmas

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
Understanding the kinetic ballooning mode (KBM) is crucial for optimizing plasma performance in high- β spherical tokamaks. Global gyrokinetic simulations of KBMs in a projected NSTX-U shot are presented using realistic magnetic geometry and plasma ...

Observation of modes in the sub-cyclotronic range of frequencies in JET

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
The excitation of modes in the JET tokamak in the sub-cyclotronic range of frequencies (frequencies comprised between the Alfvén frequency and the cyclotron frequency) is for the first time reported.

Electron Bernstein waves in spherical tokamak plasmas with "magnetic wells"

open access: yes, 2004
In addition to traditional regimes with monotonously increasing magnetic field, regimes with "magnetic wells" also occur in spherical tokamaks (STs). The magnetic field profile inversion modifies significantly the whole picture of the wave propagation ...
