Identifying factors associated with locomotive syndrome using machine learning methods: The third survey of the research on osteoarthritis/osteoporosis against disability study. [PDF]

open access: yesGeriatr Gerontol Int
We aimed to identify factors associated with locomotive syndrome using machine learning. The 9 items were identified, and an average ROC‐AUC value of the 9 items was 0.858. Age and low back pain during walking were strongly associated with locomotive syndrome.

Revisit the Upper Portion of the Japan Sea Proper Water: A Recent Structural Change and Freshening in the Formation Area

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 128, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Long‐term transition in the deep water of the Japan Sea was investigated to understand how oceans respond to climate change. A basin‐scale density decrease in the upper portion of the Japan Sea Proper Water (UJSPW) by 0.01 σθ was detected from the period 1964–1985 (Period I) to that of 2001–2019 (Period II) using Argo‐ and ship‐based data sets.

Travel Matrix Decomposition for Understanding Spatial Long‐Distance Travel Structure

open access: yesComplexity, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
Mobile phone location data enable us to obtain accurate and temporally detailed long‐distance travel distribution. However, the traditional long‐distance travel distribution model cannot normally handle this detailed temporal information. This study proposes an approach for handling temporally detailed information of long‐distance travel distribution ...

Measurements and Analyses of 4G/5G Mobile Broadband Networks: An Overview and a Case Study

open access: yesWireless Communications and Mobile Computing, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
Mobile data has become an integral part of everyday life, making Internet trends more and more profound and deeply embedded in life and the future. Mobile broadband (MBB) is one of the main aims of fifth‐generation (5G) networks due to unprecedented growth in data demand. However, 5G networks are not yet deployed in many countries, whereas existing MBB

Interactive 3D touch and gesture capable holographic light field display with automatic registration between user and content

open access: yesJournal of the Society for Information Display, Volume 30, Issue 12, Page 877-893, December 2022., 2022
Color detection is applied to a holographic light field display to create a correspondence between the user and the 3D content. Using a 3D tracking and gesture sensor and an RGB camera, the scattered light is detected to estimate a transformation between display and 3D sensor coordinates.

Much ado about diversity? The perpetuation of old elites on corporate boards

open access: yesManagerial and Decision Economics, Volume 43, Issue 8, Page 3263-3285, December 2022., 2022
Despite ubiquitous diversity pledges, many corporate boards still closely resemble those of the past, in that they are largely composed of directors with distinct elite backgrounds. Our study asks why some firms have more elite boards than others. We draw on elite theory and organizational change and stability literature to argue that the elite's ...

Twin-Robot Dialogue System with Robustness against Speech Recognition Failure in Human-Robot Dialogue with Elderly People

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
As agents, social robots are expected to increase opportunities for dialogue with the elderly. However, it is difficult to sustain a dialogue with an elderly user because speech recognition frequently fails during the dialogue.

On Element Selection in STAR‐RIS for NOMA Transmission

open access: yesMobile Information Systems, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) is a promising solution to build a programmable wireless propagation environment through reflecting the incident signals with a large number of low‐cost passive elements. Recently, a novel concept of simultaneous transmitting and reflecting RIS (STAR‐RIS) has been proposed, where incident signals can be ...

Power Absorption and Skin Temperature Rise From Simultaneous Near-Field Exposure at 2 and 28 GHz

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
In international guidelines and standards for human protection from electromagnetic fields, mass-averaged specific absorption rate (SAR) is used as a metric to prevent excessive temperature rise at frequencies from 100 kHz up to 6 GHz.
