Nuclear and elementary particle physics [PDF]

open access: possiblePhysics Bulletin, 1969
A most successful conference on nuclear and elementary particle physics was held at the University of Sussex on 24–26 September 1969. The purpose of the conference was to bring together two branches of physics which, over the last few years, have tended to develop independently of each other.

Nuclear and Particle Physics

2015
Nuclear and Particle Physics provides an introductory course on nuclear and particle physics for undergraduate and early-graduate students, which the author has taught for several years at the University of Zurich. It contains fundamentals on both nuclear and particle physics, giving emphasis to the discovery and history of developments in the field ...

Nuclear physics with strange particles

Nuclear Physics A, 1985
Abstract Strange particles are characterized by having one or more heavy quarks with the flavour strangeness. Evidence is presented that the introduction of strange quarks might offer a possibility to trace the role of quarks in low momentum transfer interactions. Three examples are presented.

Supernovae as Nuclear and Particle Physics Laboratories

Nuclear Physics A, 2009
Abstract In the interior of supernovae, temperatures and densities exceed the range that is easily accessible by terrestrial experiments. With the improving sensitivities of neutrino and gravitational wave detectors, the chance of obtaining observations providing a deep view into the heart of a close-by supernova explosion is steadily increasing ...

Particle Physics, Nuclear Physics and Nuclear Energy

2011
Particle physics is a frontier subject which studies the smallest constituents of matter and the laws governing their interactions. It plays an important role in studying the origin and evolution of the universe and the formation and evolution of the celestial bodies.

Nuclear and particle physics in the early universe

Progress in Particle and Nuclear Physics, 1981
In these lectures a review will be made of various events in the early universe where nuclear and elementary particle physics effects come into play. Several events will only briefly be mentioned, since they have been reviewed previously. However, some detail will be given to new results on big bang nucleosynthesis, massive neutrinos and inflationary ...

Introduction to Nuclear and Particle Physics

2018
This textbook fills the gap between the very basic and the highly advanced volumes that are widely available on the subject. It offers a concise but comprehensive overview of a number of topics, like general relativity, fission and fusion, which are otherwise only available with much more detail in other textbooks.

Particle and nuclear physics at J-PARC

Nuclear Physics B - Proceedings Supplements, 2004
Abstract The construction of a high-intensity proton accelerator complex (J-PARC) is now under way in Japan. It will provide a variety of beams of neutrinos, kaons, pions, muons and primary protons etc. Diverse physics topics will be addressed here with the first beam scheduled for the year 2007.
