DEM simulations in nuclear engineering: a review of recent progress

Journal of Nuclear Science and Technology, 2023
In nuclear engineering, solid particles are associated with numerous processes, such as solid – fluid flows in pebble bed reactors, coating during fuel fabrication, and debris bed formation during severe accidents. Thus, understanding granular systems is

Investigation of some nuclear engineering materials in terms of gamma ray buildup factors at experimental energies used in nuclear physics experiments

, 2020
In shielding studies, the gamma ray buildup factor is referred to an attenuation correction when the narrow beam transmission geometry conditions are not met.

A nuclear engine design with 242mAm as a nuclear fuel

Annals of Nuclear Energy, 2000
Abstract A preliminary design for a nuclear engine is presented. The engine is based on the nuclear heating of a gas composed of H 2 and 242m Am as a nuclear fuel. This engine has an initial volume of 0.135 m 3 and at 64 MPa the critical mass is 0.228 kg.

Nuclear Engineering Monographs — Nuclear Reactor Stability [PDF]

open access: possiblePhysics Bulletin, 1960
By A. Hitchcock London : Temple Press Ltd. Pp. ix + 61. Price 12s. 6d. It is a fundamental prerequisite of reactor design and operation that the power and power distribution of nuclear reactors can be controlled within fine limits. It must be possible to extract power at the desired rate without significantly affecting the physical properties of the ...

Nuclear power and the engineer

Nuclear Energy, 1958
The development of nuclear power in Great Britain is reviewed. It is pointed out that the industrial use of nuclear power cleared its first hurdle ln 1956 when Calder Hall went into operation. It must clear its second hurdle with equal success in 1966 with reactors of advanced design built at a capital cost so low that they are able to share in ...
