Development of positioning system for Nuclear-fuel rod automated assembly

Robotics and Computer-Integrated Manufacturing, 2020
Abstract A heavy-water nuclear reactor requires five different types of nuclear-fuel rods assemble into bundles. Intelligent identification and positioning of these different types rods for automated bundle assembly remain a challenge owing to their extensive variations and minute distinctions.

Nuclear Fuel Assemblies and Fuel Debris Monitor for Characterization of Fuel Assemblies for Final Storage

Volume 1: Low/Intermediate-Level Radioactive Waste Management; Spent Fuel, Fissile Material, Transuranic and High-Level Radioactive Waste Management, 2013
NUKEM monitor FAMOS is designed to measure the burn up of fuel assemblies (FA’s) and allows the calculation of the content of fissile material and other actinides. The knowledge of the isotopic composition and activities of FA’s is required for a safe handling and storage of the elements.

Vibrations of nuclear fuel assemblies: A simplified model

Nuclear Engineering and Design, 1985
Abstract This paper is concerned with the resonance frequencies of nuclear reactor cores. The homogenized equations are obtained by representing the coupled cooling fluid-rod system as an equivalent continuous material. The homogenized dynamical equations are also derived and numerical procedures are presented in brief.

Evaluation of thermal hydraulic safety of a nuclear fuel assembly in a mast assembly of nuclear power plant

Annals of Nuclear Energy, 2016
Abstract We investigated the thermal–hydraulic safety of spent fuel bundles installed in a mast assembly, assuming a lock-up accident of a fuel transfer system. For this, flow analysis with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for the natural convection and subsequent safety evaluation with 1-D Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) safety analysis code were ...

IMPACT ANALYSIS AND TEST FOR THE SPACER GRID ASSEMBLY OF A NUCLEAR FUEL ASSEMBLY

International Journal of Modern Physics B, 2008
A spacer grid assembly is one of the main structural components of the nuclear fuel assembly for a Pressurized light Water Reactor (PWR). The spacer grid assembly supports and aligns the fuel rods, guides the fuel assemblies past each other during a handling and, if needed, sustains lateral seismic loads.

Stochastics in the Manufacture and Operation of Fuel Assemblies for Nuclear Power Plants

Economic Quality Control, 2005
Summary: Statistical tools are believed to be essential for competent quality judgements in the field of nuclear technology as well as in other branches of industry. In comprehensive quality management, these tools comprise not only well-known statistical procedures of quality control for fuel assembly production, but also methods for fuel rod design ...
