Structural and biochemical insights into the thermostable esterase Ta0887 from Thermoplasma acidophilum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, a novel esterase from the thermoacidophilic archaeon Thermoplasma acidophilum was biochemically and structurally characterized. Our results demonstrate that Ta0887 is a highly thermostable esterase that preferentially hydrolyzes p‐nitrophenyl hexanoate and possesses an α‐helical cap domain that likely contributes to its substrate ...

Low rank representations of matrices using nuclear norm heuristics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
2014 Summer. The pursuit of low dimensional structure from high dimensional data leads in many instances to the finding the lowest rank matrix among a parameterized family of matrices. In its most general setting, this problem is NP-hard.

Nuclear norm subspace identification (N2SID) for short data batches

open access: yes, 2014
Subspace identification is revisited in the scope of nuclear norm minimization methods. It is shown that essential structural knowledge about the unknown data matrices in the data equation that relates Hankel matrices constructed from input and output ...

Identification and characterization of a gene conferring stress resistance in Escherichia coli and cyanobacteria

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Functional screening identified PcSyn14890, a cyanobacteria‐specific protein that enhances growth and stress resistance in E. coli and Synechocystis PCC6803. Although we expected it to function as a molecular chaperone, it was unable to protect against thermal aggregation of GAPDH.

Proximal algorithms for nuclear norm system identification [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
In this thesis, we present four proximal algorithms for the solution of a nuclear norm optimization problem. Respect to other papers, we solve a more generic version of this problem.

Nuclear norm based two-dimensional sparse principal component analysis

open access: yes, 2018
Two-Dimensional Principal Component Analysis (2D-PCA) is one of the most simple and effective feature extraction methods in the field of pattern recognition. However, the traditional 2D-PCA lacks robustness and the function of sparse feature extraction.

Fluorination: A strategy to tune the interactions of molecules and nanoscale systems with biological matter

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This minireview explores fluorination as a key strategy to optimize therapeutic molecules and nanocarriers. By incorporating different fluorinated motifs—from single atoms to linear and branched chains—drug delivery, cellular uptake, and colloidal stability can be improved and fine‐tuned.

On the Convex Geometry of Weighted Nuclear Norm Minimization

open access: yesCoRR, 2016
Low-rank matrix approximation, which aims to construct a low-rank matrix from an observation, has received much attention recently. An efficient method to solve this problem is to convert the problem of rank minimization into a nuclear norm minimization problem.

Dactolisib outperforms Rapamycin in potentiating apoptosis induced by XPO1, Bcl‐2 and Mcl‐1 blockade in preclinical glioblastoma models

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The PAM pathway and its impact on cellular metabolism. Color‐coded key symbols represent Rapamycin (R, orange, targeting mTOR) and Dactolisib (D, green, targeting PI3K/mTOR), indicating their sites of action. Created with BioRenders.com. Glioblastoma resists therapy through interconnected survival programs.
