95gTc and 96gTc as alternatives to medical radioisotope 99mTc
We studied 95gTc and 96gTc as alternatives to the medical radioisotope 99mTc. 96gTc (95gTc) can be produced by (p, n) reactions on an enriched 96Mo (95Mo) target with a proton beam provided by a compact accelerator such as a medical cyclotron that ...

The main part of this talk is a review and summary of how QCD is used in two main areas of nuclear physics, namely in determining the quark flavor and spin content of the proton and in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions. Brief comments are made concerning effective theories in hadron physics and on the separation of various twists in using the ...

Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Electromagnetic Dissociation as a Tool for Nuclear Structure and Astrophysics [PDF]
Coulomb dissociation is an especially simple and important reaction mechanism. Since the perturbation due to the electric field of the nucleus is exactly known, firm conclusions can be drawn from such measurements.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Nuclear Physics for Cultural Heritage [PDF]
Nuclear physics applications in medicine and energy are well known and widely reported. Less well known are the many important nuclear and related techniques used for the study, characterization, assessment and preservation of cultural heritage.

Neutrinos in dense quark matter and cooling of compact stars [PDF]
We discuss that observational constraints on neutrino cooling processes may restrict the spectrum of quark matter phases admissible for compact star interiors.Comment: 3 pages, contribution to International School of Nuclear Physics on "Neutrinos in ...

Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Chemistry aided nuclear physics studies
Studies of the superheavy elements bring several challenges through low production yields, short half-lives, and high background rates. This paper describes the possibilities of chemical separations as techniques to overcome the background problematic ...
