Cellular liquid biopsy provides unique chances for disease monitoring, preclinical model generation and therapy adjustment in rare salivary gland cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We quantified and cultured circulating tumor cells (CTCs) of 62 patients with various cancer types and generated CTC‐derived tumoroid models from two salivary gland cancer patients. Cellular liquid biopsy‐derived information enabled molecular genetic assessment of systemic disease heterogeneity and functional testing for therapy selection in both ...

Germanium Detector Response to Nuclear Recoils in Searching for Dark Matter [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The discrepancies in claims of experimental evidence in the search for weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP) dark matter necessitate a model for ionization efficiency (the quenching factor) at energies below 10 keV. We have carefully studied the physics processes that contribute to the ionization efficiency through stopping power.

Integrative analysis of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and exosomes from small‐cell lung cancer (SCLC) patients: a comprehensive approach

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study simultaneously investigated circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and exosomes from small‐cell lung cancer (SCLC) patients. The elevated expression of JUNB and CXCR4 in CTCs was a poor prognostic factor for SCLC patients, whereas exosomal overexpression of these biomarkers revealed a high discrimination ability of patients from healthy individuals,

TOMM20 as a driver of cancer aggressiveness via oxidative phosphorylation, maintenance of a reduced state, and resistance to apoptosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TOMM20 increases cancer aggressiveness by maintaining a reduced state with increased NADH and NADPH levels, oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), and apoptosis resistance while reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. Conversely, CRISPR‐Cas9 knockdown of TOMM20 alters these cancer‐aggressive traits.

Current Induced Nuclear Spin Depolarization at Landau Level Filling Factor nu=1/2 [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review B 86, 115421 (2012), 2012
Hyperfine interactions between electron and nuclear spins in the quantum Hall regime provide powerful means for manipulation and detection of nuclear spins. In this work we demonstrate that significant changes in nuclear spin polarization can be created by applying an electric current in a 2-dimensional electron system at Landau level filling factor nu=

The Impact of China’s Investment in Nuclear Energy on the Reputation of Nuclear Power and the World’s Energy Supply [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Over the past ten years, China’s involvement in nuclear power has increased dramatically. The country has seemingly unlimited resources to build nuclear power centers and has no qualms about using these resources.

Systematic profiling of cancer‐fibroblast interactions reveals drug combinations in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Fibroblasts, cells in the tumor environment, support ovarian cancer cell growth and alter morphology and drug response. We used fibroblast and cancer cell co‐culture models to test 528 drugs and discovered new drugs for combination treatment. We showed that adding Vorinostat or Birinapant to standard chemotherapy may improve drug response, suggesting ...

Passivity-Based Control of Buck-Boost Converter for Different Loads Research

open access: yesJournal of Electrical and Computer Engineering, 2023
Normally, the buck-boost converter adopts single or double closed-loop control, and there are differences in control and parameters for different working modes and loads.

Enhancing Electron-Nuclear Resonances by Dynamical Control Switching [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
We present a general method to realize resonant coupling between spins even though their energies are of different scales. Applying the method to the electron and nuclear spin systems such as a nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center with its nearby nuclei, we show that a specific dynamical switching of the electron spin Rabi frequency achieves efficient electron-

Pathways towards the nuclear revival in Finland, France, and the UK [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Nuclear power is undergoing a revival in a number of countries of both developed and developing world, and is increasingly presented as a solution to the problems of climate change and energy security.
