Influence of Cooling Rate on Primary Silicon Size in Hypereutectic Al–Si Alloy Fabricated by Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Al–Si alloys are particularly in demand for automotive and electronic applications, thanks to their excellent wear and thermal properties. Nevertheless, when processed by conventional methods with low cooling rates, the coarse primary Si phases are responsible for increasing brittleness and inducing crack propagation.

Decrease in the damage of powerful turbogenerator stator caused by vibration in the end zones (analysis, hypotheses, experiment)

open access: yesElectrical engineering & Electromechanics, 2014
The analysis of the turbogenerators’ TВВ-1000-2Y3 failure has shown that the most vulnerable link in the stator is such of their elements as tightening prisms, the teeth of the end packet core, lead-out and connecting buses of the stator winding.

Don’t Give up on Nuclear Energy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The nuclear power plant failures at Three Mile Island and Chernobyl in the late 1970s and 1980s split Americans into two passionate camps. For some, nuclear plants posed serious threats to both environmental and national security, and, for others ...

KupferDigital: Ontology‐Based Digital Representation for the Copper Life Cycle

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is demonstrated how data from different stages in the life cycle of a copper product can be stored in an ontology‐based data space. In order to showcase the methods and tools used in the project, four use cases are presented that show how data from different sources can be semantically described and queried from a shared data space.

Case report: Abnormal radiation dose rate measurement near Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
This paper presents the results of radiation dose rate measurements taken by the author in various locations in South Korea and Japan, including near the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant site. Air dose rates were measured in Seoul, during a flight over the East Sea, in Fukushima Prefecture, and in Tokyo using a calibrated survey instrument.
