A model for nuclear research reactor dynamics

Nuclear Engineering and Design, 2013
Abstract In this paper, a useful thirty-fourth order model is presented to simulate the kinetics and dynamics of a research reactor core. The model considers relevant physical phenomena that govern the core such as reactor kinetics, reactivity feedbacks due to coolant and fuel temperatures (Doppler effects) with variable reactivity coefficients ...

Nuclear reactors as research instruments

Reports on Progress in Physics, 1967
This article starts with a very brief description of the scientific principles of research reactors and of the radiations provided by them. There is a discussion of the different forms of research reactor, both steady-state and pulsed, with an indication of trends in the design of high flux systems.

Research Reactor Status for Future Nuclear Research in Europe

Revue Générale Nucléaire, 2010
During the 1950’s and ‘60’s, the European countries built several research reactors, partially to support their emerging nuclear-powered electricity programs. Now, over forty years later, the use and operation of these reactors have both widened and grown more specialized.

Dismantling the Nuclear Research Reactor Thetis

Volume 2: Facility Decontamination and Decommissioning; Environmental Remediation; Environmental Management/Public Involvement/Crosscutting Issues/Global Partnering, 2013
The research reactor Thetis, in service since 1967 and stopped in 2003, is part of the laboratories of the institution of nuclear science of the University of Ghent. The reactor, of the pool-type, was used as a neutron-source for the production of radio-isotopes and for activation-analyses.

Technological Transfer from Research Nuclear Reactors to New Generation Nuclear Power Reactors

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2010
The goal of this paper is the analysis of the technological transfer role in the nuclear field, with particular emphasis on nuclear reactors domain. The presentation is sustained by historical arguments. In this frame, it is very important to start with the achievements of the first nuclear systems, for instant those with natural uranium as fuel and ...

An expert trajectory design for control of nuclear research reactors

Expert Systems with Applications, 2009
In this study, an expert trajectory was proposed for control of nuclear research reactors. The trajectory being followed by the reactor power is composed of three parts. In order to calculate periods at the midpoint of each part of the trajectory, a period generator was designed based on artificial neural networks.

A probabilistic safety analysis of incidents in nuclear research reactors

Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 2011
This work aims to evaluate the potential risks of incidents in nuclear research reactors. For its development, two databases of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) were used: the Research Reactor Data Base (RRDB) and the Incident Report System for Research Reactor (IRSRR). For this study, the probabilistic safety analysis (PSA) was used.

NUCLEAR REACTOR CORIUM PROPERTIES OBTAINED AT IGR RESEARCH REACTOR

NNC RK Bulletin, 2019
In the paper for the first time thermophysical properties (specific heat capacity, thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity) of natural corium of a fast nuclear power reactor were determined in the temperature range from room one up to ~400 °С. The obtained data is oriented at use in temperature field calculations when modeling the processes of ...
