Counting nuclei released from microcarrier-based cultures using pro-fluorescent nucleic acid stains and volumetric flow cytometry

open access: yesBioTechniques, 2017
Counting nuclei released from intact cells is a convenient and reliable approach to assess cell density during microcarrier-based culture of adherent cells.

On the Origin and Survival of UHE Cosmic-Ray Nuclei in GRBs and Hypernovae

open access: yes, 2008
The chemical composition of the ultra-high-energy (UHE) cosmic rays serves as an important clue for their origin. Recent measurements of the elongation rates by the Pierre Auger Observatory hint at the possible presence of heavy or intermediate mass ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Fundamental physical features of resonant spontaneous bremsstrahlung radiation of ultrarelativistic electrons on nuclei in strong laser fields

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2022
Theoretically predicted fundamental features in the process of resonant spontaneous bremsstrahlung radiation during the scattering of ultrarelativistic electrons with energies of the order $\sim 100\enspace \text{GeV}$ by the nuclei in strong laser ...

Holographic Nuclei [PDF]

open access: yesProgress of Theoretical Physics, 2009
We provide a dual gravity description of heavy atomic nuclei, via AdS/CFT correspondence. In holographic QCD such as Sakai-Sugimoto model, baryons are D-branes wrapping a sphere in 10 dimensional curved spacetime, so any nucleus is a collection of $A$ such D-branes where $A$ is mass number of the nucleus. Quantum theory on the nucleus is ADHM-like U(A)

CCT4 promotes tunneling nanotube formation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Tunneling nanotubes (TNTs) are membranous tunnel‐like structures that transport molecules and organelles between cells. They vary in thickness, and thick nanotubes often contain microtubules in addition to actin fibers. We found that cells expressing monomeric CCT4 generate many thick TNTs with tubulin.

Nuclei embedded in an electron gas

open access: yes, 2007
The properties of nuclei embedded in an electron gas are studied within the relativistic mean-field approach. These studies are relevant for nuclear properties in astrophysical environments such as neutron-star crusts and supernova explosions.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Nuclei and Ions [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1903
IT is perhaps ungracious to reply to a review. I appreciate very fully that in cases of papers like mine, which take an isolated position and are written by a man who is not infallible, the task of the reviewer is burdensome enough. But Mr. C. T. R. Wilson's summary of several years of my work (October 8, p. 548) seems to me unnecessarily captious, and
